I know a Don Parker, but not a George. Where is he at?

Did the original engineering work ---- electrical systems for the syclone/typhoon project. Everyone was young as hell on that project...figured he was still around at GM.

I acquired most of his original sketches/notes some years ago.

Hmm.. well, I've been there for a while. I'll have to look him up and see if he's still around. Keep in mind, they laid off alot of people over the past couple years. Let me see if i can dig up some more info.

It might be worth it just to save you some time during the week. I know you've gotten a lot of requests out of this thread. Make us proud! :D

It's definetly a 92'. Not sure on the rest. I just know it's white with gold decals. Never really dug too far deep into it and nobody touches the car. I haven't even seen it in about 5 months. I'm trying to figure out why he collected this specific one and not one of the rare colors though. I mean he has a GNX, a ZR1. Why would he go for a standard Typhoon unless there's something I'm completely missing on this specific one :squint: He had a reason for it. Since he's a clay modeler, he saw this vehicle before anyone and he could've gotten whatever he wanted, within reason.

That answer to your very question might lie in your own post. Why does a 1992 Typhoon have the gold emblems from the 1993 model year?

Good point. I think it's time to visit the "old guys" in the clay modeling shop and find out  There's 4 or 5 guys that spent 20 + years in there with him.

Re: NEW 1992 Typhoon... what's it worth.

I'm pretty sure the platform number you are looking for is:

TT 10516

Back in '93, they called it "Model Code"...same thing?

Re: NEW 1992 Typhoon... what's it worth.

Re: NEW 1992 Typhoon... what's it worth.

OK... Since only one person has remembered the SoGT's I just have to post a request as well. I have the only ASPEN BLUE Sonoma GT (documented, 2 others were sighted). At least this is the latest I have heard. I also have a fairly rare TEAL SoGT but I am uninterested in that one.

I'm with ya... I'd love to get a group together and take the tour.

If you can produce documentation of the total production by colors, you will become a god among men here.
Let's not forget the Sonoma GT's in this quest!
OK, here's my simple request... I wouldn't bother you with it but since it's the rarest of rare...
I'd like to know the history of my ASPEN GT and most importantly the number that were painted this color. To the best of my knowlege, it's the only one of the alleged total production of 806+1 so it's pretty low. I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with varrious GM employees in search of production numbers and such and got nowhere so this would be a huge relief of sought after knowlege. Here are the numbers that may help you identify my truck.
  • VIN - 1GDCS14W2N0820370
  • Paint - Upper Aspen Blue WA-U9222 - Lower Argent Gray WA-L8798
  • Order # - T89780
The VIN for the Bright Teal Sonoma GT is 1GDCS14W8N0820549 if you need one for reference but as I mentioned, I am not too concerned with that one although the information would be greatly appreciated.

I have a large list of all the Sonoma GT VIN# 's from 001-806 but I don't have any way to determine the colors. I'd be more than happy to post any and all SoGT VIN# 's with the correct factory color on my web site if you went that far to get the information. You've got to be swamped with requests so the Aspen GT is my only desire at this point. I just want to know some history and how many were Aspen Blue.

You can contact me at jon@mirradographics.com or post here. Thanks a million for anything

Did some digging in my archives and found this from Curtis Clark:

Typhoon Exterior Paint Colors
First 200 Produced in '93:
Linen White - 70
Forest Green Metallic - 23
Standard Red - 14
Lamp Black - 93

Whether this is accurate information anymore.... I guess we'll now find out

I got some more VIN #'s for you. These came from ebay....

Apple Red 92 Ty = 1gdct18z2n0812027

White 93 Ty = 1gdct18z4p0810282

Black 93 Ty = 1gdct18zxp0810674

White 92 Ty = 1gdct18z2n0812089

Green 93 Ty = 1gdct18z1p0811728

I assume the 93 are White/White and Black/Black. He may or may not be able to differentiate, but if he could it would nice to have one of each.

Another thing is we should probably grab VIN's of truck we know have not been painted (ie autotrader & ebay).

Dave, the '92 Raspberry is #1782. Add it to your list please. :D
Edit: Looks like all of the Raspberries I've found are '92, so I think the one you have listed as a '93 is actually a '92 as well.

Re: NEW 1992 Typhoon... what's it worth.

I agree that we need a representitive to ask Elvis all of our nagging questions, He's probably on mental overload. I suggest we set up a poll to vote for someone to take our questions and PM them directly to our resident GM engineer. Also if anybody wants info on thier Sy/Ty/SoGT we can compile a list with the persons name, vehicle (color if its a rare colored Ty) and VIN, so that he can bring up the information at his own pace.:2cents:

Re: NEW 1992 Typhoon... what's it worth.

I would have to say that this is the rarest truck,1 of 1 Radar Blue 93 #2181:

Merk said:
ok Guys

I'm 99% sure that you are looking at THE ONLY KNOWN '93 Radar Blue Typhoon.

By way of research and a few phone calls...even going back to notes from years ago....looks as though we've stumbled across a rarity.

For a little background, PWA (Pontiac West Assembly) developed 6 new color combinations for the 1993/1994 Production year. They were:

Radar Blue
Raspberry
Bahama Blue
Light French Blue
Ultra Silver
Teal

GM did indeed factory paint some Typhoons the Radar Blue color as well as the Raspberry color. It is unknown at this time if the other 4 colors made it onto Typhoons.

Since the colors were pre-production colors, a special code was built into the RPO sheet on each truck.

I have heard firm rumors (resourceful individuals) that Bahama Blue and Teal made it to Typhoons, but no hard evidence yet. BTW, the Teal would be different from those found on the 92 Sonoma GT and Typhoon. From what I hear, the Bahama Blue is a KNOCK-OUT color combo.

Quite possibly this Typhoon was part of some kind of an autoshow as it was built 4-16-1993 and has a high VIN [ 2181/2200 ]

How it landed in the U.K. is beyond me.

Hopefully Adam, you can track down this owner again and get some greasy details.

Regards,

Merk

Re: NEW 1992 Typhoon... what's it worth.

So, I'll post up a quick something I found out today at work. I had limited access because of the weekend, but here's what I found:

There IS a 'unicorn" truck. But, it has NOTHING to do with the paint color. It has to do with the drive train. What it entails, I don't know, but there are 2 of them. Both manufactured in sequence. I can't find out more until Monday about that.
