Using White typhoons diagram for firing order and wire placement, Wired up the Sy with the 98 Vortec. Using my old distributor from 91Sy

The motor wants to pop like its out of time BAD!
Backfired up threw the intake once and that was when I then pulled the distributor out checked for TDC on the Rockers,Piston,Crank...... Everything tells me I'm up on #1 @ the compression stroke.
And rotor is pointed @ #1 on motor and cap.

everything I've found says that the 98 is the same firing order.
Also going to check the Ostrich to see if Batteries are dead <---will you loose the bin replacing Batteries?

TIA Guys

no there the same , shitty to hear your a tooth or so off on your dist , and my ostrich never dumped a bin when i changed batt . Now if it was dead for months , its possible . Dont get discouraged , take a break and come back to it later on . We had the same prob with my truck .
I'll call when we get off the boat .

Good point Garry,

FOUND THE PROBLEM ...... Ostrich.

Reloaded the bin on it.
Fresh new Batt..... And wala! Fired up.

While it was running the flywheel was rubbing on the starter.

1. Shimmed it - Still happened
2. Got a gear reduction started from a 97 suburban - Still happened
3. Dropped starter, hit lip, cursed - still happened

I don't remember any difference in the flywheels 91sy - 98 s10. to late to compare now Eh'

might have a fly wheel ready to gernade , had it happen to me. see if you can look up between the converter and flywheel and see if its cracked from bolt hole to bolt hole.

i think i remember erue had a problem with his starter doing the same thing, even after shimming too, i think he ended up buying a specific starter for the 4.3 and it fixed it

The difference is in the crank.
