The Walbro saga continues... need ideas

Okay... as most of you know, I had a Walbro GSS307 installed recently. I didn't do the work myself because it was raining and I was getting over being sick (no space in the garage unfortunately), so the local shop down the street quoted me $150 to do it. I figured changing the fuel pump is pretty straigtforward, so it should go over fairly well. I should have kicked myself right there.

Anyway, once I get the truck back, I notice that the gas gauge doesn't work (reads full all the time). Okaayyy... I needed the trucklet, so I arranged to bring it back if it still didn't work after filling it up. The next day I take it and fill it up, only it overflows out of the top of the tank somewhere instead of coming up the neck. WTF?

I also realise that the tank isn't pressurized anymore. Lovely.

Anyway, I take it back today to fix the gauge and find out why it's overflowing. This evening I pick it up and I'm told that my gauge is dead and I need a new one. Umm... no! I explain that it worked fine before the new pump was installed, so they need to check the sender and it's wiring again. They also explain the overflowing by saying that the o-ring at the "top of the tank" wasn't seated correctly, so they fixed that. I take it to the pump right in front of their garage and fill it up again to test that out.

It overflows all over the ground again. Right in front of them. He asks me to leave the truck again and he'll fix it tomorrow morning. Fine. I leave, more than a little pissed off.

So... any clues about the gauge? The overflowing? I told him to check the vent and the filler neck, and the gauge wiring again for that problem. But it'd be nice if these problems were common and I could tell him exactly what was wrong.

At least they're not charging me to fix their screwups. But if they don't get it right this time, I'm not sure what I'll do next.

Thanks

sounds like the installed the bobber upside down if it always reads full. Depending on how they put the neck back onto the tank...it is a bitch to get that on all the way. Not surprised at all. I was surprised I didn't mess mine up when I did it.

I have done several of these and they may have installed the sending unit backwards, and that would explain the overflowing out of the top, because there is a locating tang on the sending unit housing to make sure everything lines up...soo they screwed it up, not once, but twice if they even touched it the second time...I think he has a jack leg working for him and tell him not to tell you it's raining when he is pissing down your back... That sending unit is about $300, and that may be wholesale...They may have broken the potentiohmeter or wire on the sending unit...

THANK YOU!
I printed this out and left it with them this morning. Sure enough, my trucklet is all better now. Well, at least as good as it was before the factory fuel pump died.

Oddly, none of the mechanics would talk to me when I picked it up. Heh. Just goes to show I should have done it myself in the first place. I'd say it would have taken longer, but I think I would have gotten it right the first time.

Anyway, thanks again! Once again the list comes through for me with easy answers to odd questions.
