Torsion Bars

I couldn't find a good write up or thread about this so I figured I'd start a new one. I've got the torsion bars fully lowered to where the keys are up against the far side of each slot. It lowered the front of the truck quite a bit but I want to get a little lower for now until I have the funding for coil overs. Now, is there any possible way to get maybe another inch lower up front by removing the torsion key bolts or is this as low as it gets.

If I can go lower by removing the bolts, do I have to remove the pork chop as well ( I think that's the name of the piece the bolt goes through or what do I do with it?

Any good write ups would be awesome or some walk through guidance!

Re: Torsion Bars

you can use regular jimmy/blazer porkckops, or keys and put them upside down and adjust the bolt all the way in. this will get you to almost the height that you are at right now, but will allow you to go much lower.
also do you have stock bump stops in the front?? if so you are probably resting on them. you either need to cut thm in half, or install smaller button head bumpstops.
if so this could provide the inch or so that you need.

I'll check on those bumpstops during work to see if they are close or not.

Re: Torsion Bars

Just checked and they aren't on the bumpstops but are within half an inch. I think once I get the 18's all around they will fit a little nicer so I'm not worried about it right now.

On top of this, what would be a really good shock setup for the front and rear? I plan on putting 3" drop blocks with stock leaf springs on the back with some sort of aftermarket swaybar (Probably from RPM). What would be a good setup to go with for all around chassis rigidity and solidity?

You won't believe the night and day difference a set of rear bilsteins coupled with a sway bar will make.

Re: Torsion Bars

I have the coilovers from RPM as well so it won't be a direct comparison, but with the rear sway bar on my truck it was an amazing difference in body roll. You will be happy with the difference for sure.

Re: Torsion Bars

I have rear Bilsteins that are for sale, they rode really good with my sway bar in the back. I just got QA1's make me an offer. i have front shocks too but i dont know what they are(track adjust 4x4 or something:dunno:)

Re: Torsion Bars

How much of a reduction in body roll would you guess, atleast 50% better?

Better. First time I drove mine after putting them all on I went round a corner and was waiting for the capsizing ship feeling instead the back end slid out real level. It is a helluva better setup.

Do it.

I plan on it very soon. Would you recommend waiting to get the drop blocks and shocks until after I got my new wheels for fitment or just get it now and order a set of setback plates as well?

my kidneys and teeth regretted 3" drop blocks on my ty.

You're talking to a guy with a fully decked out suspension freak galant VR4 with solid motor mounts and no balance shafts, I'm not worried about this thing at all
