Where did you get your stock replacement radiator at?

Also I found these.. I may try one of them:

I want a big rad.. and I want to put the cooler for the tranny up in front.. I don't have a front A/A to deal with. I may need to see if I still have the stock Power Steering cooler somewhere around.

I have also considered tubing the front shround in and then using a big 19" x 31" radiator. I have measured and either one of the ones that I have posted up there will fit.

i put a gauge in last year with the sensor in the pan. it was anyhere from 180 to 195. i installed a tranny cooler made for a 10,000 lb truck pulling a trailer. now i have not seen it go past 150. it will sit around 140 all day.not sure what it will go up to at the track. seeing i never had my sy go down the track yet.

Well I pulled the pan today and the filter...

As I was hoping.. there was nothing out of the ordinary in the pan.. there was a bit of that fine grey dust that is in the bottom of pretty much every pan I have ever taken off.. but nothing that I would consider out of the ordinary.. there were a few bits on the magnet.. but nothing I was worried about.

Fluid was still clear red.. no burnt smell... so I am chalking it up to the cooler just being in the wrong position to provide cooling. That is all I can figure. I took the other cooler out and am going to put it back in front of the rad and go from there.

Went ahead and put a new tranny filter in while I was there... no obstructions anywhere... fluid lines were all installed correctly... so.. from here I am going to move the cooler and see what that gets me. I am thinking that is the major issue.

I will update once I get some fluid here and get it running again.

Good to hear. Hopefully some cooler air up front will help. At least you know that nothing serious has came apart.

Nick, are you using the cooler in the radiator in addition to your aux. cooler? I read a thread at a tranny tech website once where the "guru's" were strongly advising folks to bypass the cooler in the radiator because they can collapse and restrict fluid flow, causing overheat. I don't know what prompted your tranny replacement, and if you changed out the radiator, but they also said converter debris (from the old tranny) was very likely to clog the in-radiator cooler. You might want to bypass it (at least temporarily) and see if that makes a difference. As usual, YMMV, TIFWIW, etc. Good luck....

Oh, and BTW, my guage (in the tranny pan) has never gone higher than 200dF, even when racing at Nats.

I have an aftermarket rad with no cooler installed in it.

I appreciate... hope moving the cooler and redoing the line will solve the issue.

Well I moved the tranny cooler to the front of the truck, while this is not going to be good for my AC and engine coolant temp in the summer it appears to have taken care of the problem with the overheating.

I also set the converter to lock in 3rd and 4th at 50 mph. I will change that to 45 and see if there is any difference.

I went out and drove around for about 20 minutes, in traffic... and I never saw over 152.. so only time will tell if moving the cooler fixed the problem. Incidentally I also switched coolers... I went back to the 28,000 GVW one that I bought from HHP.

Hope this solved the problem... initial driving indicates it has.

I will update here if I have any further problems.

FWIW I use the B&M SuperCooler 28,000 GVW from Summit with great success, it's black and "stacked plate" design with about 8x9" in size, only drawback is you have to supply your own fittings, really annoying, I got 2 sets at the hardware store that worked without leaking after some retightening... great cooler but wish they woulda supplied fittings w/hose barbs in the kit, but then it wouldn't be a true "SYTY MOD" if there wasn't some fabrication required, now would it ?!!!

I drove around for about 45 min last night, including half a dozen WOT blasts.... here is my fiance in the passenger seat

But the tranny temp peaked during a dead stop 4 gear WOT blast at 192.. for the most part it stayed around 177-182 while I was blasting around... crusing at first it stuck in the 155-160 area.. so I am very pleased with this. Just goes to show you how much a good cooler is worth also.
