Fired it up today... pressures tv cable off...at idle

park 90 psi
Reverse 150psi
forward gears 298psi

Seemed a bit high so yanked on tv cable but no change. Goes back to same readings. Pulling on tv cable works as expected, though. Emailed the shop about it and will wait until they reply. Ran through the gears leaving drive shaft and prop shaft out for now.
Fluid level is OK when in drive but shows 1 pint over when back to park... weird.

This short take is to show how propely SETTING the TV cable will keep unnecessary slipping of the clutches in check, to an extent.

What's the word on the truck and the new trans? Got it running and driving yet? Keep us posted.

Running but not driving yet. Work and weather not permitting. Still need to realign the rear end. It looks as if whoever installed the lowering blocks left the bolts that go though the center completely out and the rear end moved forward as a result. Need to mess with shifter bracket since i got a bravada propshaft and it makes contact with it. Im also needing to fab a cross over air intake tube. Will probably end up using silicone 3" hose across the radiator to the filter since it is flexible. Also, want to lube it all before it hits the road. All in all, its going well just hardly no time to work on it. I try not to let anybody else around here work on it. I am learning as i go, too. My goal is to have it out by this spring or sooner.

Sounds good. Just curious how the Phoenix trans works for you. I've had 2 of them and loved them. Let me know.

Re: Transmission is out today, finally!

Drove the truck today for the first time in over a year. Just needs a few other things to be back on the road until something else breaks or ?? Removed 2" lowering blocks which were the cause for rear end misalignment. I'll post some pics soon to illustrate. So far, it runs very good but not great. Haven't tuned it. It starts when cold, no problem ; but once it reaches operating temps, it's hard to start back up. Has to be timing related. Any ideas? Just got it a new harmonic balancer at 110+ K miles on the odometer. Will install next weekend, Tentatively. I missed that torque!

Timing is timing, if it's set corectly to begin with that would be unlikely. A weak spark would be a posiability but if it runs good after starting I'd tend to rule that out also. Next time you start it hot hold the pedal down and see what happens. That puts the ECM in "flood" mode and dosen't deliver fuel. If it starts quicker then you have a leaking inj issue. On the flip side make sure the fuel pump runs for 2 secs with key on. Assuming it does cycle the key (IE run the pump) a few times before starting which will guarantee a fully primed system. If it starts then then you have a fuel pressure leak down issue.

This exactly what is happening. I'll look into it next weekend. Stuck injector(s) maybe Since it sat for awhile? Might run injector cleaner thru it before I start to take anything apart. Thanks!!!

Re: Transmission is out today, finally!

Removed 2" lowering blocks. They caused the rear end to ride forward slamming the driveshaft into the transfer case which has been replaced once probably for that reason.

Original Spare tire has been taken out. I kept hearing a thump during acceleration and deceleration... that thing still has those little "tits" on it but don't think I'd ever use it. Will make nice shop decor. Truck is 50lbs lighter now.

So the driveshaft causing issues with the transfercase after lowering the vehicle concerns me....so is there a correct way to lower and center the rear end to avoid this? I have bought 2 inch lowering blocks for the rear and seeing this makes me rethink about lowering the Typhoon....I'd love to hear others thoughts on the matter.

According to others who know better, the first issue in my case was the fact that the wedge was installed at the bottom. The other lazy mistake on this installation is the fact that there should to be a bolt running thru both the wedge and the block to keep them aligned as if they were one piece. You will see what I mean once you do tear into the task.
It can be done but has to be done right. Not exactly a bolt on deal because of the longer bolt needed. Just my inexperienced opinion.
Stink bug stance!

Re: Transmission is out today, finally!

New power bond harmonic balancer going along with intrepid fans...possibly. very tempted to do timing chain at this time since it as 110K miles +.

Lining it up...looks like I got to it just in time. Does look like it's about to go.

The new mark.

What is this?? Balancing material?

Pulled it off. Silicone. Maybe that is why this engine shakes. LOL

Now what?

Re: Transmission is out today, finally!

Just thought I'd share what I have found. While comparing the stock distributor to an aftermarket unit, I noticed that the stock distributor has marking to aid set tdc on our engines. These are the marks I saw. Hope this helps someone else... look closely to the distributor housing. There is a tab which lines up to a dimple on the distributor gear.
Excuse the wiggly lines. I drew this on my Android phone with my finger.

This distributor is from a 1995 4.3 with vortec markings. Took it apart for the gear which better than the syclone 's. Notice the little teardrop shaped metal spacer. There is also an arrow which points up on the plastic housing.

Re: Transmission is out today, finally!

The mark on the gear coincides with the notch for the rotor if I remember correctly. I don't believe the tabs have anything to do with TDC, only to keep it from rotating. The gear can go on either way and dist can go in anywhere as long as the module wires fit. Once in, where the rotor points becomes #1. (As long as the engine is at #1 TDC.) If you want to be like factory then yes, align the gear mark with the rotor slot and install the dist so the rotor points straight ahead and the module connectors are slightly to the drivers side.

I believe, but not positive, that the damper with the blue mark on the slot has slipped, I think the slot and the keyway should lineup.

Just my :2cents:

Re: Transmission update

The newly rebuilt transmission from Phoenix in Weatherford, TX feels awesome! I'm still working out some bugs on this thing. Finally got it dialed in except for some fine tuning(thanks Eric). Had to go back to the original style distributor because that after market one did NOT FIT well. It worked but there are too many differences which made it unreliable. The first part to go would have been the gear because it only catches just under 1/2 " at the tip and not in the center like the stock one. Almost ready for new paint job!

On your rear Springs did you put the wedge back on they need to be there for correct pinion angle there was a set on there from factory. If not you may get a vibration and break u joints.

Re: Transmission update

Is this the rebuild from last year or did you have it rebuilt again?

Same. Just went crazy replacing other parts or rebuilding them and hadn't driven it. Feels like it's gonna hold just fine. The check ball on the input shaft which regulates fluid flow into converter was left out. Lock up feels like another gear. So far, it's nice and tight thru and thru.

Nice!!! Its cool after so much time you get to drive it again! Congrats
