trip odometer, doesn't work. anyone have a fix?

ever since i bought my truck the trip odometer hasn't worked. when you clear it, it works for about 1/2 mile then stops. anyone know how to fix it?

i'd also like to know if it can be fixed. mine works, but only registers half the distance you've driven...on a good day.

mine goes forwards, stops, then goes backwards. No I am not kidding.
I think it has to do with the DRAC. That small little piggyback box on the ECM. Or whatever the heck that thing is.

I have that problem every once in a while
Usually hitting the rest will fix it
If that doesn't a good whack on the dash with your fist usually does :banghead:

both the tripodometer and odmeter are actually turned over by small elec motors. these motors are not interchangable between the two. and they both have a 3 wire connector that is detachable inside the cluster for easy removal/detachment if you catch my drift.
