Truck stuttering??

I thought I recently figured out all my problems until now, my truck stutters so bad it eventually shuts off, drove the truck around for about 20 min. on the fwy and went home, everything was fine, but when i started it again, it began to stutter a little and after about 5 min. it was so bad i could barely make it back home, the rpm would go up and then drop real quick, now i have a clicking noise and can't figure out where its coming from, its just weird to me how it was fine until i turned it off and now it can barely run, any suggestions, i tried checking the timing but it turns over so bad i can barely see anything with the gun

Re: Truck stuttering??

is it your IAC? try tapping on it with a hammer (lightly) if it starts to idle fine again you know it's that. Other than that we need more info. Any codes? what's your FP when this is happening? (clogged filter, bad pump) We need more info man!!!! hehe

I had the same shit going on. Is it a high output coil? My stock dist went bad really quick when I changed to a high output coil.

Re: Truck stuttering??

Just a question....but did you check the plug wires to make sure that one didn't come off. With the ticking sound....it sounds like one may have come off and now you're running on 5 cylinders....

Just trying to help.....

This happened to me after I wrapped my headers... had two though, wires were just barely seated and they came off after about 45 seconds driving

Re: Truck stuttering??

Just a hunch... make sure all the ECM connectors are thoroughly seated... I had one wiggle itself loose that was causing a bouncing idle / stalling after warmup condition that drove me nuts for almost 2 months

Also, have you taken a fuel psi reading? If you have a regulator with leakdown it might causes problems with a new fuel pump

Re: Truck stuttering??

how can i read the fuel pressure, is there a meter i can buy, i have no laptop right now, the idle is bad right from the start, all the connectors are properly in there place, i still have the old ign module in, and the original dist.?

Re: Truck stuttering??

You did try replacing the IGN module before right? As far as bad idle, another problem to be considered is a vacuum leak around the throttle body shaft... I think I've heard someone say you can put some grease around the ends to test that.

There is a port on the fuel rail for the fuel gauge... I bought mine at the local auto parts store for $20 ... worthwhile investment, helped me alot with basic dial in on the Ty

Re: Truck stuttering??

No i never replaced the ign module, napa has 2 of them, one for 34.99 and 74.99, and a new distributor for 139.00, i ll check for vacuum leaks right now, this still doesn't explain the clicking noise I hear, i took the valve covers off and its not the rockers or anything like that, its sounds like its coming from the distributor, the truck wont stay on long enough for me to find out where exactly its at

my truck has a nice click to it, has for a while... generally comes from the fuel line tapping the tranny / firewall / back of block
