Re: Tune Up Time.. (Whats the best Brand)

I did msd coil, cap, and rotor, with taylor wires the last tune up i did as my "first" when I brought the truck. Wires seem fine, ive read a few folks dont like them. Got a set from Hood for my next tune up which do look like a better quality set. The MSD cap and rotor are working fine.

The coil tho. Never getting one of them again. Head ache. Caused random misses and stumbling on mine. Put the stock coil back and it ran better. Going to get a new coil for the next tune up, but dunno which one yet.

I usually find a cap that still utilizes brass vs. Steel. Been told brass is a better conductor than steel by a few old timers. .. I know autozone does a lifetime warranty on their cap and rotor kit.

Any good brass term cap will be fine. Stock coil. Plugs your choice. New wires, Taylors, or Hood's new ones specific to our truck. Every ign problem I've ever had ended up being the wires. Keep them seperated and use a heat shield on #6 and maybe #1.

X2. Ever since I got my truck over 15 years ago, anything Accel was a no no. Conrad used to make a proven cap and rotor for us, #DR2012G. AutoZone still carries it but, it's made by someone else now. I had ignition issues when I tried to use an MSD ignition coil several years ago too. Bought a brand new stock one and been running fine ever since.
