Turbo Busted ???

I need some help diagnosing a turbo. The truck seems a bit slower and I don’t hear the turbo wine anymore. The boost gauge goes to 15 pounds (I know those things are junk, don’t remind me) There is little front to back motion on the impeller. Any quick way to tell if I need a rebuild or just pull it apart?

I would at least check out the exhaust side and see if you lost a few blades. You will have to open up the turbo of course.

Both inpellers look good. It spins freely. Wastegate moves freely. I think i'll plumb the wastage straight to the turbo and see what happens.

This what you should check if the turbo is spooling up slow. You have to remove the exhaust side housing to view the turbine blades.
What are your mods? alky, headers?

Bone stock truck. I did put a straight pipe after the cat. That typically gives you overboost.

U should be okay with a cat installed and no muffler.

My guess is stuck wastegate. Impellers bad I had a similar problem was a combination of impeller blades missing and a bad boost solenoid.

That will give you like 8 psi. If the blades are in good shape than it is probably the solenoid. :2cents:
