Turbo Movement Spec

I'm assuming you're talking about the compressor/exhaust wheel shaft. Normally, it should not have any lateral play (movement parallel to the shaft). It can, however have a little bit of radial play. This play is part of the bearing mechanism and has something to do with oil viscosity and pressure but I'm not 100% sure what it's called. But a little radial play is ok.

You mean it is supposed to move perpendicular to its long axis(ie wiggle)?
That doesn't sound right. Mine has no wiggle to it.
Mine only moves in and out(back toward the back of the truck, forth toward the front of the truck)ever so slightly. It still works OK. No noise or anything. Is this all right?
Please let me know if I just read your post wrong, Brandon. Kinda worried my turbo is dicked up now(I'm turbo illiterate).

Blake,
I talked to John Craig about this one day because I thought my turbo was shot for a similar reason. I could "wiggle" the wheels around about a half-millimeter. John said the "wiggle" was fine, but "back and forth" was a bad thing. He explained to me that what happens is the wheels spin so damn fast that they stabalize themselves on a bearing of oil. What hurts them the worst is the "chattering" or "back and forth" movement when you get out of boost quickly.

If my turbo did what yours is doing, I would have sent it back for a looking at as it might be "dicked up". BUT! My turbo was not stock, so this whole schpiel may not have any relevance to your situation.

Let's hope for your sake this is the case...

My turbo has 130K at least on it so it may be ready for replacement anyway. I've noticed the noise (the flutter sound)is far worse now than it was just 2 months ago when I let off the throttle with as little as 5psi boost.
Thanks, I was afraid of that.
