both with internal waste gates, two 3inch exhaust, big A2A...etc

youd be doubling the amount of air flow and they aren't very expensive.

someone step and and throw out some pros/cons please..

IMHO without some serious inter cooling it's gonna be pre-ignition city. The setup pictured appears to have no inter cooling. But it's also, apparently, a diesel which means it doesn't suffer from pre-ignition. It can be done. I think there are a couple of dragsters running inline turbo's. Serious tuning, serious octane, and a serious wallet required.

why do you say "pre-ignition city"? if you can get the a2a to cool the air temp, it should def help the detonation. the other issue would be fuel? bigger injectors and tunning?

im just thinking two small/stock turbos would make a street truck more fun to drive than one with one larger turbo.

That engine is an older mechanical injection 12v Cummins B-series. They didn't generate nearly the power the ISB 24v's do today, however, with some easy tuning of the injection pump and more airflow, they can make power. As mentioned, detonation simply isnt a factor in diesel engine, whereas in a gasoline engine its life or death. Unless you have a tremendous lag problem or are making zero power on the top end, a single turbo set up will make life easier, not to mention reduce underhood temperatures.

Sequential turbochargers are used to broaden the powerband so there are no dead spots (lack of low end torque or high-end horsepower), and are primaraliy used on large diesels which require a flat torque curve since maximum operating speed for a small bore is 3K and a large bore is 2200.

Caterpillar uses a sequential turbo system on thier engines for emissions purposes. The C15 has two turbochargers, an internal water heat exchanger and an external charge air cooler. It also uses ACERT varible valve timing to eliminate the need for EGR.

Back on track: these systems are becoming obsolete with the newest advancements in varible vane and varible nozzle turbos, which are far faster and more precise than a wastegated turbocharger.

Not a bad word, but sequential generally relates to one small turbo with quick spool providing boost early and a bigger turbo taking over as the smaller one reaches the outer limits of its efficiency. Compound charging is a different beast and relates to one turbo's output blowing into the inlet of the next... Supras had sequential turbos, large diesel industrial engines often use compound charging as the image above demonstrates...

I've seen a few guys around here that are using compound turbo systems (one was separate exhaust but series inlets/outlet, and other was series inlet and exhaust). Both had great results with a blow through carb running e85 and no intercooler.

ALot of the c15's are twin turbo now adays. I know the new fords do twins with a smaller turbo and a bigger turbo.

I know that AMS performance did a Evo with a small turbo spooling the big one. That away it had boost for most of the engines RPM range. But due to the amount of time they had to get it tuned in for the Castrol Syntec Top shop challenge they scraped the little one and went for the big one only.

We have a Cat powered KW at work that is "twin" turboed like that pictured. Another interesting link. Check the VW setup part way down.

My friend works for Waller Trucking, and they have all KWs. 90% of the fleet is ordered with C15's like the one pictured, although there are a few 60 Series out there. From what he's told me, they've started going to a single turbo system with a VNT turbo due to the new DPF requirements.
