TY breaking up, surging under acceleration

A guy who lives by me came by today. He has a Ty that's he quit messing with a while back because it had a problem that he couldn't figure out.

Truck is basically stock, with a walbro 255. When he's accelerating it breaks up, and the fuel pressure won't hang in there.

No codes, didn't have a chance to data lot it for him.

I told him that my opinion was that he got a faulty fuel pump, but I also told him that he may need a hot wire kit. I'm actually leaning towards stock FP wiring just can't supply the fuel pump with enough power for it to run good with a load on the engine.

Any other opinions?

He's older, and not a board member. Truck is mint as he's had it since the mid 90's and consider his toy.

Close the spark plug gap, see if that helps.

Fuel pressure drops when he accelerates?

Get a fuel gauge , connect to the rail and drive it then watch to see if it falls off. If it does then buy a pump and buy a wiring kit from racetronix and call it a day. IMO

I guess I could have explained it better. When you accelerate the pressure starts rising with the boost, then it just begins falling off and kind of surging.

Plug gap is good, really points to fuel system.

I'm lucky, I have a Hotwire kit from my Regal that I can adapt to the sy, and a Racetronix drop in pump from an F-body that I can adapt to the TY. Glad I kept the regal's HW kit when I went with the big external pumps and new wiring, and I kept putting off selling the Racetronix drop in pump from the camaro.

Just wanted to see if there was some little SYTY specific issue that has nothing to do with the fuel system at all. He's going to bring the truck back tonight for me to tear into it first thing tomorrow am.

Re: TY breaking up, surging under acceleration

This sounds like the same problem I'm having I ran the SOB down low on gas when it was above 100 on tuesday and it started doing the same thing dropping off under acceleration even after I put gas in it. So today it was doing the same thing on the way to and from work only today its 109 ! Another weird thing is every time I go over a bump or bigger crack in the road it drops off too. I read a couple other threads on similar problems and it seems to me like the fuel pump is going. Turbo tweak seems to be the way to go on this. Let me know what happened with your old buddy's truck.
