TY transplant in s10

So a buddy of mine is parting out a 93 typhoon and I have the engine trans and pretty much everthing else I need to put it in. I also have a 92 bravada as a parts truck.

The swap is being done in a 93 standard cab short box with a 4.3 2wd. I want the truck to remain 2wd also

My concerns are drive shaft leingth I know my wheel base is 8 inches longer but I'm replacing a 4.3 with a 4.3
, if I should leave the transfer case on the trans, if I pull the case off will my shaft still slip into the 700r4 that is what is in my truck I belive
I'm going to put the rear end out of the bravada? I here its the same as the TY into my axel of my s10 to keep the wheels tuckin under is that a good idea?

Will my stock s10 linkage work on the trans I want to keep my colum shift

Also wire harness is there anything speical for the TY or can I use the comp and harness that's in my truck

Sorry about all of the Q's but I have been told so many different things and I'm pretty sure this place is the mother load of all SyTy info

Thanks a lot
Jimmer

Welcome to the site. I'm relatively new, but I've spent too much time reading old posts and think I can probably answer some of your questions. Good to see you've already found the "Conversions" area.

Since you're wanting to keep your '93 2wd, I'd recommend deleting the tcase. The AWD cases (BW 4472 maybe?) have a viscous clutch that can be damaged driving around without a front driveshaft. Some people have driven for short periods without ill effects, but the general opinion is long term, or in your case permanent, operation can lead to tcase damage.

The syty 700r4 transmissions have some specific internal parts that control tranny operation. A regular 700r4 would obviously work but part of the "syty experience" would be lacking. I'm not positive on this, but I think the tailshaft housings can interchange between 2wd and 4wd transmissions. I seem to remember putting a 4wd S-10 trans in my sister's '91 Camaro several years ago where we switched a few things around, but I could be mistaken. You'll need to lengthen the ty driveshaft or keep your s-10 shaft. Not sure about spline counts.

You'll need a syty computer for sure and probably the wiring harness too.

If you want, post the VIN of the ty being parted out. There's a "graveyard" where folks keep track of dead vehicles. Good luck!

Glad to get that info I was told that the Tcase should stay but that's all I need is somthing to go wrong with a part that I don't even use. Do u think ill have to cut my stock driveshaft? I would think not I guess it would depend if I could use the tail shaft .
Thanks for the info. This project is deff going to get a kick in the as$

By anychance has anyone ever did there own rearend. The differential that is ?

Thanks

Harness is different, very, and i would just use a 2wd 700r4 or different trans. dont bother with the ty one.

I would delete the transfer case, use the 2wd driveshaft and 2wd rear end. The 4x4 rear ends are 2" wider.

As for the transmission, I would rebuild the 2wd transmission as perfromance build or rebuild the Ty transmission when doing the 2wd output shaft/tailshaft (80% of the work is done when doing that swap). The stock 2wd transmission wouldn't hold up to our engines, you would ideally want have all the Corvette Upgrades (which are transmission already have) and either SyTY or Corvette Valve Body/Seperator Plate. You can use a SyTy or TPI Corvette Governor for the shift points.

As pointed out the wiring harness/ECM are different.

You can use the column shift, but you will need the TV cable (the one the goes to teh Throttle body) from the SyTy transmission.

i have a typhoon engine in my s10 BLAZER

first off if your keeping it 2wd the trans has to be rebuild with the 2wd output shaft and tail stock obviously

as for wiring if you can get everything from your friend its really easy plug and play get everything if you can interior engine guages and it will make it a breeze ... alot of work but easier then splicing things

Re: TY transplant in s10

Locate a 700R4 tail piece and output shaft (out of a vette?) put that in place of the transfer case. What is the point of carrying that extra weight for nothing?? Then look for a 4.3 /auto 2WD driveshaft for a standard cab, or bring an extended can driveshaft to a driveshaft shop and they will cut it down for you.

You need the Ty engine harness and computer to make your life EZ. -Going from a 93 to a 93 is a wiring cake walk unless you have a digital dash in the truck things could be a PITA.

Trans linkage should work, but you may have to improvise parts.

2WD is going to suck whether it is posi or not-no boost launches for you!

Good luck and do a search before you post Q?'s

You will need to know the vin # o fthe ty to get things to work 100%. If you post vin we can help you on where you will need that info.

You don't want a tail piece or shaft out of a Corvette, because they are unique to accomodate for the Driveshaft Beam brace. The output shaft is a slightly different length.

Any idea what I should use. If I am correct when I pull off the Tcase I need to put on a tail shaft to replace it mine on my 2wd s10 I here will be to short to use

Noted. -But that can't stop anyone from making an adaptor for the cross brace to accomodate the tail shaft.

 Try a Z28 then :dunno: -just trying to get the dude on the road.

I am definitely not a trans connoisseur!

The brace goes from the tranmssion to the rear end. The transmission in our trucks aready has a crossmember bar a few inches in front of it.

He can just use his S-10 2wd tranny for the shaft and tailshaft adapter. It make his life easier by being able to use the existing driveshaft.
