Ty wont start....

hey guys.. new the forum, need some input though

i bought a 92 typhoon had a bad headgasket, but when i bought it the motor was partially taken apart.. i got the heads went over new valve seals, get em decked, put new cometic head gaskets on it. got it all put back together. took me a while to get the timing right, im not used to distributor type motors. after the headache of getting it timed i finally got it fire up and run. ran pretty good, but i could hear chatter from the rockers, probably because i didnt get them adjusted right. so i get the valve covers back off, re adjust the rockers i do what the not so crafty chilton told me to do.. use one hand to twist the push rod and the other hand to tighten the nut down until the lash is gone, then tighten the nut one more full turn, then tighten the allen nut down in the center of the nut.. i got that done, valve covers back on, now the engine wont fire again.. it cranks over and tries to fire but just wont do it.. i checked the timing to make sure that was still on. everything is good there..

im lost on what to do now..

any suggestions???

have you checked everything over to make sure you didn`t unplug something and make sure you have fuel and spark.

Re: Ty wont start....

Did you do the sequence for the rockers or did you adjust them all at the same time?

I messed up my valve preload and couldn't get mine to start.

Check for spark - hold a plug to the intake in the dark and get someone to crank it.

Check the fuel gauge.

You need fuel, spark and compression. Your valve adjustment sounds off.

Re: Ty wont start....

yea did em in the sequence, cylinder 1 tdc, then cyl 4, in the exhaust and intake sequence.. got fuel, ill have to try the spark plug thing

it might be off.. i might just start over too i duno.. maybe the lifters are bad too??

i know when i was adjusting the rockers, id get em tightened down the way it sayd and by the time id get done with that first cylinder sequence theyd be loose again, im assuming the lifters are compressing.. i didnt go back and tighten them again though..
