Typhoon clone

I have a 1990 2wd Blazer that I would like to build it up to a typhoon clone. It already has a 4.3L. How would I go about transforming it into a ty clone? I know I'll need a turbo kit and either a 4wd or awd, but where is a good place to find these parts? And how should I go about putting it together. I'd like to have a setup where i can run low 12's / high 11's. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

cant be done. the frames are different, and the typhoon stuff only bolted up to the "special" typhoon frames... sucks, but gm didnt want them cloned, or people how to read back posts...

to simply explain the differences, the frame was changed to accomidate the awd, and enhance the handling.
This actually required a whole different rear axle assembly, rear half/ front half frame, cab, and driveline. The engines are transverse mounted to accomidate the awd trany and xfer case. So the front of the frame is strange to mount the motor sideways. The cab is different to allow room for the accessories and manifolds.

well the first thing you have to do is remove the bigblock from a typhoon donor truck, and then you weld in some front wheel drive mounts so you can get that sucker into your blazer. then you build 3 trannys cause your gonna need to keep a few spare ones from all the torque a big block makes. then you take the big plastic wing off the back and mount that on your truck, along with the 5" muffler tip. and thats it! you pretty much have a syclone.

Stooopid E. Non-special order Typhoons had GN engines with a Corvette trans. So find a GN get the engine and find a 4th Gen 'vette and you have most of the parts. Now you could find one of the special order big-block Ty's that E was talkin about but they are rare and could cost a few thousand.

One more thing. The special hubs used on Ty's are discontinued and were weak to begin with. Most of us use 4X4 style heavy-duty hubs so that we can do burnouts and then lock in the hubs for a killer AWD launch.

It is much cheaper and easier to build a Ty than buy one. I don't know why people buy them prebuilt.

The cladding is readily available since Australian built models were made for 5 years after the US models were discontinued. GM should be able to get you every thing you need.

SyTys were made in Australia??? Are you sure of this. They would have to be Holdens and what were they called over there. Please answer, I have never heard about this befor. So that would mean there is alot more than 3000sys and 4500tys. Please excuse my disbelief until proven otherwise. were they just blazers with cladding. going to find info now.

You are all wrong, the Sy/Ty's where made in Sweden because GM bought 50% of Saab and thought that the Saab factory in Sweden would be a good place to build the Sy/Ty's, then they where shipped to Finland to the factory were they build the Saab convertible for interior assembly. After that they were shipped to US disassemblyed due to tax reason, resassembly in US and sold on dealer lots. This is one of the reasons the Sy/Ty's were so expensive and why they discontinued making them

I have a Typhoon roller that i could sell you cheap. It's a mechanics special. I have 90% of everything you will need to reasemble the truck. It's california rust free with a really bad clear coat so it will need to be repainted. $6500.00 firm

im also doing a conversion and i decided to use the search button before posting on the what and hows and heres what i found so far..ive read more flames to newbies and crap about using the search button than i have found usefull information go figure i thought people came here get info about things at one time most people here that are doing the flaming didnt know about.. and once asked the same questions???

imo you should pm "justblazin" and ask him what it takes...he's from california and probably reading this as i type....he's been working on exactly what you want to for about a year now...he might recommend the same as some of these other guys (buying a real one)....it gets expensive even if you start out with a real one...search would yield you much more accurate info here than not...good luck

i understand its cheaper and easier to buy one..its not about the money its a project for me somthing to kill time. if i just wanted to go fast i would drop a small block in it..im not trying to do 10's or anything like these other guys. im doing it because i like the sound of the blow off valve hehe..na all else aside im doing it for the experience of doing it..its a 94 jimmy 2wd with a factory g80 rear i think its gonna turn out nice.
