Typhoon Rear Speakers (6x9 replacement speakers)

I know the location of our stock speakers is less than ideal, but I'm trying to keep my Ty as stock appearing as possible (hence the direct replacement speakers). I replaced the dash speakers with Kenwood KFC-4675's, and much to my suprise they went in flawlessly!!! However, when I tried to mount the Kenwood KFC-6907's I got for the rear, I discovered that they are about a quarter of an inch deeper than the stock rear speakers. Has anyone had any success in mounting 6x9 rear speakers in the stock location on their Ty??? If so, How???

Find a 6X9 Slim or you have to use a extension adapter thing that doesn't look so stock, but you get better sound.

I was able to CRAM a set of Infinity Kappa 6X9s although the cover "bowed out" a little and I did not tighten the lower screws all the way in.
They started to rattle and I went ahead and opted for the extensions.

Hell I never even notice they are back there.
Want the truck back to stock, take em out and drop in the delcos.

Unfortunately, I've already bought the Kenwoods. They're not so bad, being 3-ways and all, besides, they were a steal on base! But where can I find these extensions??? Best Buy, Circuit City and Radio Shack haven't been much help so far...

best buy does have those extensions...they are for a jimmy. they will be around at the actual install bay for car audio. talk to those guys they'll point you in the right direction

6x9' arnt the best for sound i would build a plate for a 6 1/2 and a tweet thats what i did you can cover it in grey formica and it will look stock

I pulled the whole plate, ash tray and all, used it as a template for 1/2 in MDF, and mounted 2 6 1/2's. Head power drives the Pioneer 4X6's in the dash, and 100X4 drives the 2 6 1/2's in each door and the 2 in each side rear (8 total). Why would you not want to improve on the stock stereo is beyond me. These parts are not unique to the Sy/Ty and can easily be put back to stock with S-10 parts. I would think it would add to the resale value, not detract. As long as the seats, cladding, rims, motor, and vin # are there then why would it lower the value to have a killer system installed? Your'e just saving the next guy the work! I'm waiting for a Ty with Al Dustan's suspension, fully built motor, and some 17" ZR1's allready mounted before I buy a real Ty, cuz after working on my Jimmy Tyclone for all this time I'm tireed and lazy!
