Ultimate chip?

I was considering the ultimate chip in the truck after I get the head gaskets replaced but have read a few discouraging comments about it's performance. I know the stock boost controller is off and the truck now has 40lb. injectors / 20g turbo upgrade / forged internals /3 bar map / MBC / Turbonetics wastegate / And a Prompaq box that holds the current tune chips. My questions are ...

Is the Ultimate chip worth the $$ and does it work well ?
What do I need to put back on or take off the car for the chip to work?

I am just looking for 16-18 lbs boost on 93

Thanks everyone.

Re: Ultimate chip?

for the price of the ultimate chip you can do the real deal and get a wideband/ostrich and/or chipburner and run code 59.

That way the tune is customized to YOUR truck. I'ts pretty confusing at first but there is plenty of help out there such as the code59 forums. Also this setup is more upgradeable than the ultimate chip.. in this all you have to do is download a new bin and edit to your needs.

Not familiar at all with that, but I will look into it....thanks.

Re: Ultimate chip?

I have had the Ultimate chip for 4 years now running stock injectors and a 3 bar MAP. It has worked well for my daily driver. However, I think I want to move on now to something more customized.

How do I hook up with the code 59 folks? Is there a special URL to get to them?

Sign up with the same user name you have here...well, you needed to before it "opened", not sure about now?

Where do you get a chip burner and cable that plugs into your truck obd1 port? I would really like to get tunning with this program.

Re: Ultimate chip?

moates.net sells all of the hardware.
G1 adapter, Ostrich

Tunerpro is the software for editing the BINs and loading them into the Ostrich.

code59.org is the forum to acquire and discuss running the latest $59 BINs as well as uploading and sharing your tuning experience.

www.moates.net has pretty much everything you need.

As far as wideband, many people are using the Innovative LC-1, others use the PLX SM-AFR/DM5 or the AEM UEGO

All do the same function, its basically just your preference on style.

The Ultimate been working great for me, all you would need is a 3 bar map sensor.
A bunch of ppl here can burn you a chip for stock or 50lb injectors, I don't think much people uses 40lb.

Re: Ultimate chip?

I doubt you will be able to run 16-18 PSI on 93 octane, that's just the reality of our trucks. Your truck would have to be in flawless tune and even then it probably wouldn't work. I spent years on mine and I still can barely run 15 PSI with 0 knock on straight 93 octane.

The Ultimate is probably the best 'one size fits all' chip but it is for the stock 30# injectors. The injectors MUST match the chip. Your 40# injectors are an odd-ball and I'm not aware of any off the shelf chips for them besides the old Kenne Bell which nobody would recommend.

Re: Ultimate chip?

Ok AI have read the link to the old post and i want to order the parts i need to start tunning. Are these correct?

G1 Memory Adapter: TPI Etc. (Moates.net)
Ostrich 2.0; The New Bread (Moates.net)
Innovative LC-1/LM-1 (Which one do you guys prefer???)
TunerPro RT (tunerpro.net)
My Laptop

From the discription the new ostrich has a usb cable, so i'm ok there. Do i need to buy a blank chip from and electronics store to burn the new program on, or when i save the old program (atr pitbull) will the chip then be empty.

I don't mean to highjack the thread just excited to really get the truck tuned well.

Thanks,
Adam

The prompaq in the truck now has the Kenne Bell chip in it which explains the injectors. I do have the stockers .

I've never had an issue running that boost range with 93 octane with my truck and honestly Im actually having zero knock now.. Im amazed and even banged my knock sensor to make sure but sure enough zero knock but during upshifts I get 3 each time so I would say you can run 93 octane but like all things with these trucks you have to monitor it closely

The stock injectors are commonly good until high 11 second ETs on race fuel in a Syclone (maybe low 12s on a Typhoon). If your truck is not that fast, it stands to reason you could safely switch back to the stockers and then run the Ultimate chip. Or you could keep the 40# and go straight to a custom tune, your choice.

I prefer the PLX M-300 wideband personally (www.streetrays.com #1 bestseller $280 shipped) but given the choice of LC-1/LM-1 I would do the "combo" that Moates offers with his O-Meter and an LC-1 for $243, cheapest option available for a wideband with meter. IMO, the LM-1 is dated technology, not to mention friggen huge, it's larger than a graphing calculator!!

To read your existing chip you need Moates HDR1 little adapter, but you'd also need a chip burner/reader to use with the adapter. Unless you truly need to read YOUR specific chip, you could probably find someone who already has your chip's .BIN file online and could just send it to you - thereby avoiding the necessity of buying the chip-transferring tools yourself.

You are very lucky then... Are you seeing 16-18 PSI on Datamaster or just on your gauge? The reason I ask is out of 4 autometer Boost gauges, I've had 2-3 that have been off by 1-2 PSI... One got so bad I had to get it replaced under warranty. It would read 2 PSI with the engine off.

I was told that the ultimate chip that is tuned for stock injectors would be ok on the 40lb injectors I have now...is that true?

No, I doubt it would even run, even if it did run, it would run like crap.
