V-Tec for SyTy's

pretty bad when they say "you've heard of V-Tech"....when really its just VTEC. You think they'd at least get that right.

A lot of the turbo-ed vtec people disable vtec anyway. I really don't see this being a good idea for our setups.

It's been out for years, haven't heard of ANYONE using it...

That is Way down on my priority list. Couldn't remember seeing it although I may have.

I'd try it if I had more money than sense. Not that I have any sense

I had a "variable timing" design years ago, after installing a Dodge timing belt off a tooth. The design used 2 idler pullies for the timing belt. The idler pullies could slide left or right to vary the cam timing. I never got past the design stage though. :)

I never got that elevator to the moon built either. Oh well.

this isnt bullshit, folks.
cam is the heart and brain of the motor - i'm waiting for someone to introduce variable duration roller hydraulic lifters.
think about it - especially for guys with bigger heads that flow at higher lifts - easy on the valvesprings due to low lift/duration at lower rpm, big ass increase in offboost power due to above, should see some top end due to high ratio.
years back someone made a timing set for a small block that would centrifugally advance/retard the cam - like to see someone do that again - i'd buy it, too.

They already have them... as a matter of fact.. my buddy owns half of the patent on it.

It is a cam gear that wil essentially adjust the timing according to what springs and what the setup is in it. They are still in the deveopment stages and they have two dirt track cars that are in competition using them. They are going through about two seasons of design and revision right now. I don't claim to know all there is to know about it.. I just know he is working on it.

The cars are gaining anywhere from 9 to as much as 14 horsepower. I know you may not think this is much.. the rules on these cars are very strict.. so 10HP is a lot of gain for them.

well, i dunno squat about your buddy's patent, but i do know there's one like i described above advertised in a 1967 issue of hot rod mag i have.
i would not think horsepower is the goal - it's bottom/midrange torque that will see big gains.
if u have the right cam, retarding it will really not pick up top end - but advancing it will gain bottom, usually.i'd like to know when this comes to market, please

Just for the record, GMs Pontiac Vibe has an optional Toyota engine with variable cam angle that will red line at 7600 RPM.

http://www.pontiac.com/vibe/specs_engines.jsp

The Vibe is ugly but it does come in an AWD version. Think about what our trucks could do if their red line were 7600 RPM.

Variable cams are here and will probably stay.

bill, no offence, but who cares?
its still a piece of rice shit in a domestic label.
technically speaking , it's not variable cam timing or any ohter tricks that let a motor have a high redline.
it's good valvetrain, light reciprocating components.variable cam stuff has been around for years.

it's MILK in the wheaties that's a problem - piss is my standard morning beverage!
and if u think i am nasty - seen anything from morgan??
lol myself!

I just think it is funny ... good stuff... I like to see someone get on people from time to time.

I am "domestically oriented" too... I have nothing buy American cars and would own nothing but American cars... even though I do have a Ford, it is a company car, so I don't think that counts...

I will see when they think they are going to release it to the public... I will let you know. They are basically working with Jesel right now to incorporate it into a dry system, more race oriented stuff.
