Some of you may have already seen this thing in this post I made a while back.

Here is a quick pic:

A couple members have already purchased these from me in response to that post. I have taken this project one step further, and have decided to have a machine shop produce them in batches of 20, and enhance the design a tiny bit. I will post an official group buy thread with more info, but for now the last hurdle to jump is the finishing. I am leaning towards anodizing, but from what my research tells me its not exactly cheap.

So far im at $100 per color for small batches. This translates into $5 per color for every batch of 20. If I offered 2 colors the anodizing costs would be $10 per unit, if i offered 4 colors they would be $20 per unit. I have 4 colors in mind: black clear red and blue. If one of those is much less popular then all the others, I can drop it and cut the costs for everyone. Here are the prices so far:

Retail (ie ebay, 1 single order etc.) - $50 + shipping
5 qt syty group buy - $45 + shipping
10qt syty group buy - $40 + shipping

These prices include the vacuum block, fittings and hose barbs.

Add $5-$20 to the above pricing for anodizing depending on how many colors are used.

Even if you aren't interested in the block at all, your input on the color is appreciated.
Thanks for your time guys!

Truckless. For now.
Re: Vacuum Block Group Buy Color Choices

Cool! I voted for red because I'm now doing a red/white thing in my engine bay. Don't know if I'd buy one yet, but hey, you said you wanted input. :)

Hmmmm...... I might be interesed in one at $40-45 but that is the outter edge. If the price goes higher I think I will have to pass. That being said, here is my :2cents: .

I personally, am more interested in cost than color. Black or clear is a universal color that blends with just about anything, and if the fittings are blue ano then that's fine too.
Keep it simple and cheap IMO. One color and if some one wants "custom" let them customize it (and pay for it) , $10 plus buck's on a $40 part is pretty high little less $20 or more for all the colors.

Thanks guys, your input is very valuable. Bear in mind the product will be a little different from the one pictured, and it will be machine shop quality. Keep the comments coming!

I would take one and color does not matter. I also would not want to pay over $40.

Re: Vacuum Block Group Buy Color Choices

Well it looks like the above pricing will work with out adding the extra charge for the colors. I can work 2 colors into the price so be sure to vote. Looks like black and red are a go. Hey aren't those syclone colors? :D I will also offer polished so you will have 3 finish choices.

If anyone thinks I should keep the blue fittings speak up, otherwise they are all going to be brass. The problem is you cannot get hose barbs in blue anodized, or aluminum at all for that matter..unless someone knows something I dont - so you end up with 1 blue fitting and 3 brass. :( With all brass it will look nice and everything will match.

I would be weary of using an aluminum plug in an aluminum part unless after you install it, you have NO intention of ever removing it. The reason is the two parts will gall together making it very difficult to get back apart. Some teflon thread tape will help prevent this somewhat.

Thanks mike, even though teflon tape is going to be used, I think at this point aluminum is out of the question for cost and non-matching reasons. Thanks for the tip though, I'll definitly keep that in mind.

Re: Vacuum Block Group Buy Color Choices

The valve covers will look nice on the new motor that I can't afford. At least the battery will be secure while the truck sits in the garage for 6 months :D .
