I just got some new springs from Jerry. They dont have the inner dampeners. I hear about 50/50 on opinions if we should run the dampeners or not what do you guys think?????

IMO I’d definitely use dampers. You’re just askin’ for spring breakage otherwise.

I had some local guys here in Dallas say the same. However they all said it really depends on spring, lift, rpm.

Jerry, and some others on here run without Dampers.

What do they do exactly? Stabelize the valve train to the steap onset of a roller cam lobe???

I wonder if you can buy dampers seperate?

Damper failure is what started a big'ol problem in my truck. The dampers on three valves broke and destroyed the seals and sent shit all over the motor.

It's my understanding that valve springs can "vibrate" at certain RPM's. This can lead to valve float and/or spring breakage. Dampers are often used as well as dual coils with the coils just touching each other and "coiled" in opposite directions. I’ll bet if you look you’ll find dampers coiled in the opposite direction than the spring. Damper breakage may be bad but spring breakage is usually worse.
