i have a tapping noise coming from the driver side valve cover it sounds like a bad lifter. I did the rod bearing test where you pull off the plug wires on the side making noise and see if the sound goes away but when i pulled off one of the plugs the taping went away but not completely. i still heared a taping noise but its more of a pinging than the loud tap i had before. when the plug wire was installed back on the tapping resumed :( . anyhow i was wondering if this is a bottom end or a valve train problem. thanks in advance for any advice !!!

Tapping

Agent 2729,

A rod knock is not something that taps at idle. It Raps typically @ ~ 30-40 MPH when U let OFF the throttle. A Main knock is a heavy thump ON throttle. Tapping is usually valve train noise.

the tapping accellerates with the engine but dissappears in the higher rpm range (usually goes away around 2000 rpm). its also loudest from a cold start and goes away at idle when the motors fully warmed up. the tapping can be heard again though  when you give it gas but goes away roughly after 2000 rpm after its warm. the oil pressure is also good and never drops below half way on the stock guage. thanks again for the advice guys !!!!
