variable exhaust

Re: variable exhaust

meh, tons of cars have them from the factory, I've had to disable a couple of them on BMWs because they get stuck closed. Waste of money if you ask me.

Re: variable exhaust

A red flag for me is the claim of the poster "it helps the car get exhaust backpressure and increase torque at low rpm." In a brief search I could not find that claim on the web site. They claim to "balance" HP and torque. Whatever that means. I am very Leary of such claims. An engine is an air pump. Reducing its capacity to move air by increasing back pressure doesn't make sense.

I think what you have here is probably a very expensive exhaust cut-out.:2cents:

Re: variable exhaust

Factory anything leaves much to be desired. It is being implemented erroneosly in my opinion. There are a bunch of worthless products whose manufacturers claim to "add HP" such as certain air filters with subpar filtering capabilities which let destructive dust into the engine destroying cylinders or mufflers which are actually creating back pressure but are called turbo or free flowing.
i like this concept. Justhas to be done right.

Re: variable exhaust

Factory anything is usually a compromise on reliability, cost and function. "Leaving much to be desired" reminds me of the racer's adage: "You can have cheap, fast, or reliable, but only two of the three at once."

Can you link to how having a high exhaust back pressure makes an increase in torque? Should I just stick a banana up my pipe (oooo-re! Matron!)? :rotf:

I'm with Don here - an expensive exhaust cutout! :D

Now if it blocks off a turbo scroll, that's different ;)
