well changing the cam will net the most power gains BC you be opening the valves the correct amount to get the most from the heads...the correct cam...is totally ECM compatable..and can be run on a stock chip...run about 250.

What is the best cam for the vortec heads....with stock ecm. If a speed-pro were used is there a different cam that could be more effective...

the best cam is a comp09-412-8..it has the exact amount of lift you need and not too much duation...you really dont need anything more even if you went to speedpro.

you dont "NEED" headers...but they are always nice...esp seeing as how you have all of these go fast parts and stock manifolds...you'll like them more anyway makes changing plugs much easier..and at this point you will pick up some HP too

John,

Would you suggest to use other Comp Cams stuff with this cam? Valve springs, rocker arms, pushrods etc? Anyway the operating RPM is this cam is 1200-4500. With a rebuild motor we could use a bit higher RPMs. Correct me if I'm wrong.

TIA,

The ATR gate sucks, yes.

Headers - plug access is good other than #1, which is a bitch. Get yourself a custom wrench to get it out, it's fine. Use a heat shield of some sort on the plug wire, I like Taylor's boot covers.

The cam John listed is good, if you want a bit more for a max effort combo, the 09-422 is what I used. McCoy is using similar stuff in his builds, like 212 duration, .500 or so lift. I tuned a truck with one, seemed a bit more responsive than my truck, very nice street manners. Could have just been the motor was fresh, dunno.
