water pump question

guy i'm about to finish my engine.and i have a question.i had a edelbrock water pump but my engine was alway at 220 deg,i took the thermst of and the temp was high the radiator is flowing good i was thinking of putting a stock pump back on to see if it work better then the edelbrock pump.the only thing that worry me,is thatthe engine has a lot of power and the flow is not going to be enough any of you have work with the stock pump in a high hp engine. please dont guess if you have try it let me know.or if that you set-up too ill be working with e-85 even thought i don't think that make a difference .but im throwing as much as possible out there

Re: water pump question

There's got to be something wrong somewhere in that cooling system. You need to run a thermostat in that engine, get a new 160. That Edlebrock pump should work great if its the right one, and working properly. What do you have for fans?

Re: water pump question

Make sure you've got the correct pump and it's rotating the right direction. When I was figuring out how to mount my electric fan setup I drove my sy around a little in 80 degree weather with a 180 thermostat and no fan and it never raised above 182 degrees in dm. Stock rad with edlebrock pump so I'd say you have other issues besides the pump.

Re: water pump question

i had the right edelbrock pump and the elec fan is a brand new mustang 5.0 93 fan it blows good air and i did have a thermostat on it a 180 deg one and nothing still high on the water temperture .the pump is a reverse rotating pump .

Re: water pump question

I you turn the heater on, does it blow hot air? (air in system) Is your radiator cap leaking at all? (coolant works better under pressure)

93 Mustangs didn't have electric fans.. mustangs didn't switch to electric fans until the plateform change to sn95 in 94 and im not sure of the cfm from the stock fan setups allot of people tend to upgrade when blower or turbo is involved but either way 220 out of a truck with a 180 thermostat there's something wrong with the coolant system somewhere. Stock waterpumps are cheap, take the plung and pop a stocker on there and see if it makes a difference but normally the only failures edelbrock pumps have are when they start to weep coolant

Re: water pump question

I had a different truck that I switched over to electric fans and it started to overheat while sitting at idle or with the A/C running and in the end I just wasn't moving enough air with the fan setup I had. That may be part of the problem but from my experience this does sound like there is another issue as well.

Re: water pump question

ryan you are right it 96 gt fan. the problem was that when i took it out and check it the( edelbrock pump) it was leaking. the pump has not being use more the 100 mile in total ,between the last built and the tunning i did on the motor .i'm piss it a new pump and it leaking already so now i'm looking into a stock one or a electric one .if you guy have any experience in using a stock or elec one on a built motor let me know i don't want to sound dum but i just dont want to buy another edelbrock pump and have the same problem...

SyTyless......for now!
Re: water pump question

When I had my Ty I put in a stock replacement when the OE one crapped out, never had a problem. I still had the mechanical fan though. The key to good cooling system performance is efficient flow and heat transfer. Good clean airflow through the radiator, constant flow of coolant through the system, and directing the hot air out of the engine compartment.

Oh so it was leaking ok makes sense why it's not holding it's own then.. damn well since your at that point I personally would probably contact Edelbrock and have them warranty it or at least replace it cheaply then sell it and toss a stock replacement on and be done with it. Stock water pump should be able to cool it fine as long as the efan fan setup is decent and wired up correctly and rest of the coolant system is good.

Re: water pump question

beavis like i said i dont want another edelbrock i spend 200+ on it and in less then 100 mile between drive and tuning it gone. and it was at 220deg. all the time. i check everything, i put a( 180 term) the result the same . took it out the same, no change. i thought it was the rad or the fan but they are working fine and the fan is pulling alot of air out. i had no a/c and no front mounted air/to air.... the main reason is to see if somebody has had the same problem but it look like people have had good cooling system in there car ...i'll check with the new built motor and see. i'm just worried sence ill be making more power then before if it going to be worse...

Re: water pump question

It is easy to get the wrong rotation water pump, thats why I posted the part numbers. Double check what you have, to make sure it is one of those I listed. If not, then it is probably the wrong one and that could be why it's not working good.
