What is this????

Can anyone tell me what this is? Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics but it appears to be some kind of sensor coming off the exhaust manifold crossover. I followed it through the firewall and under the dash. It was taped off and not connected to anything.

Re: What is this????

Unless there is a hole in the crossover pipe for the probe to be IN the exhaust gas, it's looks more like a "how hot my crossover pipe gets" probe judging by the hose clamp setup...

Nah....it goes in. A lot of companies (including AutoMeter) ship their probes with clamps for use with the threaded bung. Some use it, some don't......the previous owner of this truck obviously did.

Re: What is this????

Thanks for the QUICK replies guys! So I assume since it's not hooked up to anything I can take it out? I'll look at it closer when I get home but if I do take it out will I need to plug the hole in the crossover?

Yeah, most EGT bungs are 1/8" NPT, so just get a brass plug from a local shop and plug it.

Cool. Thanks again for your help! So now that I know what it is I was thinking about it's location....Is the crossover a normal spot for an EGT probe or wouldn't you want it on one of the manifolds?
