Your best bet would be to drive it for some time before you break into racing it regularly . A stock truck can have common issues like ignition gremlins , false knock , tv cable not set properly , or just not running right for some reason .Modding it right away , wont let you learn if youve really made it better or worse by changing things.

You really need to learn your truck from the drivers seat . How it feels , what it likes , and what it doesnt like are all things you need to know before really playing hard with it . Almost every month a new syty owner buys one , mods it shortly after , and puts it up for sale again as quick as they decided they had to have one. They usually sell in worse condition than bought in ,or losing thousands on the deal on the average once theyve thrown parts at it .

Reading will help when you have an actual question , but without driving it much yet , you dont even know what real questions to ask . Everyone here wants to see you avoid all that crap , and avoid the headaches these beasts can cause .

My best advice is to just start off slow . Majority of the fast trucks around here took years to get that way and alot was learned during that time . Hope that helps with the itch .

Very good idea. I would atleast start trying to get all the perfoemance out of your stock truck (ie mid 12's) and getting familliar with what you should be seeing on a scan tool. Bigger Turbo's get break the motor that much quicker when they are out of tune...

Dude, The only way you're going to get ANY kind of E/T, much less 11's, IS TO BUY ONE FIRST.
While I appreciate your participation in the Iraq affair, your being a little more forthcoming with your actual situation, (still in Iraq, haven't bought the truck, etc) might be appreciated by those that are willingly giving a LOT of time to help you.

For real. According to his response below to my advice, I sure thought he owned one already.........

I am going to upgrade the tranny before I do any serious racing. Thankx i didnt think about the propshaft. that would be an expencived breakage. Well I got the weight of the truck down as much as I can with out spending alot of money (fiberglass/CF hood, fenders, racing seat, etc). I need to find someone to do the tune for me... Little practice with the truck am i can get my R/T to what it was in my camaro, avg 510 on a 500 tree.

I dont plan on doing any of the mods till next April for that is when I will have 2 months of no work that I can dedicate to the truck. So I will have seat time in before I go modding it. As for hard racing, that is not in the forseeable future for this truck. IT might see the track 3 or 4 times a year. I'm just wanting a fast street truck, so I will not make major sacrifices in drivablity for the sake of performace.

There is some excellent advice in this thread, but it appears to be offered with the assumption that you actually OWN and are driving a Syclone. Based on the above, I don't think you do. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

I'll be back and picking the truck up in 3 weeks.

you are right down the road from michael at tucker auto(ellebell,ga). he does work on these trucks and tunes them very well. your best bet is to go see him and pick his brain and let him chip the truck for you. it s by far the best thing you can do at this point. his # is 800-858-2447

Re: What would it take..

Yeah it did Josh. Or at least the old version(unless that one in the link is different, I'm on my phone so I can't check)

Listen. If your tranny's been rebuilt, think about cooling it and maybe shift kit. Don't sweat breaking it. If you don't do nuteral drops, or race from a roll and let it down shift into 2nd gear really hard and fast you shouldn't have to many problems. Asuming the place that rebuilt it did a good job.. I know you didn't want a stall based on your other cars. But a stall is the thing that will help you the most larger turbo. I would look into a 2800. That should be perfect for your goals, both street and strip.

While you say you'll have 2 months leave money to spend on the truck you didnt say exactly how much you have to work with. And I think that will determin what mods you can and should do.

1st, upgrade your fuel pump
2nd, make sure your stock motor is running right. Get a scaning software/tool.

Then you can look into a turbo and Injectors. I would go with a 60 trim turbo, and no less then 50# injectors.

Last but not least at all. Get a tune!!
