whats going on here?

I have the atr aux cooler. The shurflo went bad so today i replaced it. I checked all the lines going in and out to make sure they flowed. I hook everything back up where it belongs and take it for a ride. So heres the deal. When i drive the truck in od on the highway my ia temps goto 180. If i put it in d they goto about 112 at the worst. What is going on? I was just in a stock ty and his ia temps are 98-99. O i forgot to add that the temps change dramatically and are never constant unless in D. For example they will go from 140 to 165 almost instantly and then not even a second goes by and it's back at 120 so on....

Check timing and EGR function. On my Ty, my timing was advanced 8 deg. So cylinder temps were nuclear. When the EGR would kick in, all this excess heat was getting dumped back into the intake. Not saying to disable the EGR, just need to find out why your cylinder temps are so high or if the EGR is staying open more than it needs to be(sticking maybe).
Hope this helps somewhat.

Also... Did he have a different chip?? Ultimate?? did he have his IC hot wired...? Do you have the stock chip in?? .. check those as well..

What are your coolant temps when the IAT drops? This might clear things up if you are using a stock chip and the CAC pump isn't wired to run all the time. Good call.

Have you checked your fluid level after driving? There could be air trapped in your lines, which you should bleed out. I tipically make the water circulated for half an hour whith shorting the ALDL connectors (or if you hotwired, with ignition) to bleed it completely.

ok. I have the pump hot wired. The ultimate chip is in. My thermostat is a 160. I looked at the egr cycle and when it was on it did heat up so disconnected it and still the same think happend. The coolent looks good. Timining is 0.

Put your hand on your CCHE underneath is it getting warm. Be cautious when using your air conditioning. If you have the ATR unit, I believe it sits right against the condensing coil. If you are running your AC, the aux cooler will suck up all kinds of heat from the a/c because of the large surface area. I noticed this on my Ty and had to rethink everything as far as placement.
I also had an intermittent CAC pump and discovered the connections in the weather pack were bad.
The downpipe will also cook the bottom of the intercooler. Some guys wrap the downpipe. Some guys wrap the intercooler. Some do both.
You should have coolant swirling like crazy in the intercooler. If it is just barely moving, you have restrictions or air.
Sy 1178 would be cool to the touch after a trip around town.
I'm still working on the Ty :(

Forgot to ask, what kind of boost levels are you running?
Do you have a Datamaster you can email me?

I found out what it was. The in/out hoses on the upper ic were reversed. Now she's flowing. I am sitting between 88-95 and at wot 111 on a 1/2 mile road. Finally we have cured this problem! :D :D

Way to go!!! Doesn't move fluid too good if all it gets is air
Good job. Don't get to hear too many repair success stories.
