After talking to a local trans guy about the 80e he said avoid ~94 and earlier if you going to use it without rebuilding it since there were issues with the shift seloniod exhaust ports becoming clogged and breaking the case passage. If you rebuild it before use then new updated selonoids are redesigned to fix this problem if the case passage is ok.

To avoid possibly getting a case that the passage(s) are possibly cracked I avoid anything before 96.

I have heard 98 and newer have a few more updates also.

I would have to pull out my manual again to confirm exactly what they are.

What I have found with the 80e is a lot of the 400 parts transfer over, so in terms of spragues, etc if you want to upgrade a lot of them are available.

Im not familiar with every single vehicle GM used that trans in but what Ive seen so far is that the 80e is used in the 1 all the ton chassis. If you have a salvage yard local to you that may have some GM vehicles look for anything with dual rear wheels from 1996 and newer with a gas engine. They are also installed in delivery/box type trucks and Ive heard they were available in 3/4 ton (2500 series) trucks as well but Ive never personally seen one in my adventures into the salvage yards local to me.

BTW, motor home chassis with a gas engine got the 80e too but I dont know if any motor homes or even the above mentioned vehicles/trucks can easily be found in Greece.

Since I cant edit my horrible grammar the first line should read as follows to actually make some sense. Sorry

"Im not familiar with every single vehicle GM used that trans in but what Ive seen so far is that the 80e is used in all the 1 ton chassis."
