Which alky kit

Re: Which alky kit

Hmmm... Well when I ran race gas at 15 psi when it wasn't needed yeah I was running pig rich. It bogged me down bad. It was 114 octane. Then the following summer my O2 sensor went. If I had tuned to race gas at 15 psi it might have been different. But why? I could run 15 psi on regular gas. I was able to run 18 psi on regular gas.
A perfect example. I found my AFPR to be bad so I put the stock one back in. The AFPR was running 37 lbs of base pressure. I had a better bottom end. Then after 10 psi the alky kicks in and then it soars.
With the stock regulator its preset to 42 lbs of base pressure and I run a little richer bottom end and I can feel it lag a bit more. At 42 lbs of base pressure and a Walbro I am able to run 22 lbs of boost on the stock turbo with 18 deg of timing until about 10 psi and then it needs alky.
So if I pulled ECM power and ran race gas you’re saying it won’t make a difference? Will the ECM learn to lean out the bottom end and then richen up the top end at 22 psi? I’m just asking because it sure didn't act that way when I tried it? Just trying to state what I found and maybe learn something from you guys if I’m wrong. I could see burring a chip for a race gas tune might work well. But race gas cost adds up and so do O2 sensors with all the lead in race gas.
Someone educate me if I’m wrong. Not trying to act like I know everything here. I just have messed around with this stuff a lot.
I dont use a WBO2. I plan to get one. I use datamaster and a EGT for reasurance. It has worked well for me so far.

Re: Which alky kit

you are very limited to higher boost levels on built motors or larger turbo motors with pump gas on these trucks, they are not like supras and talons that can run 20 plus psi on 93 octaine,it is the way the fuel burns that changes the af ,a good setup is a pump gas tune up to around 15 psi or so,and a race gas tune anything after that, now this is what i run,i also run NO knock sensor but i am not like everyone else i watch my iac temps and wbo2 and everything else very very close.

Re: Which alky kit

also your talking a closed loop system with a o2 sensor,I like many guys run a open loop with no engine o2 sensor, in my opinion I like it better, and the idle and driveability is mutch better, but its simple low boost pump gas high boost race fuel,And yes race gas cost but so does a 10,000 dollar engine so if i have to buy a new wbo2 sensor once a year and i can run 10 sec passes and not have a blown up engine then thats what i will do,See that is the problem it comes down to the saying play to pay.The guys that play with high boos,t pump gas no wbo2 etc are the guys blowing engines up,

Re: Which alky kit

You really really need to have a wbo2,guessing and playing with tunes without one means a broken truck

How is watching KR, intake temps and, exhuast temps guessing? Nollan burns chips based off of datamater correct? Hes not watchin your aftermarket WBO2? Again not trying to be an azz.

Re: Which alky kit

and there is no way to get a perfect tune without a wbo2,your just guessing,A egt gauge is about as worthless as a a/f lean rich gauge now that we have wbo2 that everyone can afford, also anyone will confirm this, it is just about impossible to make a chip tune without the truck and a wbo2 on it,anything from datamaster files etc are just a rough ball park burn, might be close but not perfect, and that is why so many have problems .

Re: Which alky kit

You know when your getting false knock because of exhaust temps and datamaster. I can see when I push the alky too much because its fine until I turn it up and I get false knock and exhaust temps sky rocket. Yeah a WBO2 is nice but $200 + dollars is spendy.

Re: Which alky kit

200 is spendy to keep your motor from blowing up?you can also get false knock from valetrain,dp etc

Yes you can. I can see false knock when I shift from park to drive to reverse.
Like you said you are not running a knock sensor. I am. I want to see knock because if it's false knock or not if the sensor sees it; its going to pull timing. I have no false knock under WOT that I have found so far. Most of it is Mechanical durring gear shifts. I can see that as well.
