as the title says im trying to figure out which rebuild set i need if i take a 91 4.3 block and drop a pair of 96 vortec 4.3 heads on, will be using an edelbrock 2114 intake so that part is handled
would i need a 91 rebuild set with a pair of 96 head and intake gaskets. or would a 96 rebuild set work since (i think) its the same exact block?
i am pretty sure a 96 kit will work but im not sure if there is a difference in the block i dont know about. i can piece a rebuild together if need be but woud prefer not to.

im doing a compete rebuild going from the block up with 1 of everything so im tryin to get was much as possible in package deal from summit

even tho the intake gaskets are wrong?
do the head gaskets line up right between the two

The most common headgaskets use for turbo charged motors are the SyTy headgasket or cosmetic. Same headgasket is used for stock LB4, L35 or L31 Vortec heads.

The 91 & 96 blocks are very different. Different oil pan, timing chain, cover and balance shaft. The camshaft are also not inchangable because of the spacing for the blance shaft.

dgoodue is correct.

Look on summit. The kit for a 91 is different for a 96. Compare the parts. I just did a 96 rebuild and was asking the same question.

Compression will be a concern as well - have you considered that?

got ya thanks for the info guys will get the set for a 91 and intake gaskets for the 96

the 2114 intake is made to match the 96 heads to the pre 96 engines with 4 barrels, im planning to go with propane instead of gas so im going to aim for 9.5:1 compression, the vortec heads are 64cc so with the forged summit set it will be between 9.2:1-9.3:1 the engine is going to the machine shop in a couple weeks when i finish paying off my hospital bill. im starting with a n/a 91 4.3 from a blazer hence why im wanting everything to go together right the first time.
working on getting the particulars of the cam profile for the setup. im not aiming or record setting power from it, its a daily driver
