Wiper delay issue

Greetings,

I have seached pretty lightly and not found much. I looked on the S10 forums but, everything is for 2nd gen blazers and all they can think to say is to replace the puslse board.

My issues is with my 91 blazer. Wipers only, and I mean only work on the HIGH setting. No low, no intermittant, no parking, just high. If I want to park them I have to turn high off when they are on the down part of their cycle.

Any ideas? I see that it could be the switch on the tilt column, but I thought I would ask around.

Re: Wiper delay issue

I'd replace the switch, there are more weird problems with those stupid switches, most dealers still have some in inventory. Be prepared to bitch and complain when replacing it too - PITA.

If they won't park, there's no voltage on the white wire at the motor, the board is bad, the connections from the board to the motor are bad, or the low speed motor winding is bad. The stalk switch has nothing to do with parking, once moving.

Remove the plastic cover.
Pull the board out of the motor.
Leave it connected to the vehicle harness.
With key ON, check for B+ voltage on the board on the white wire trace. (Cold solder connections are common, and so is corrosion).

You can touch 12V directly to the connectors in the motor housing to test the motor.
The bottom one (as installed) is high speed,
The next one up is low speed,
One is the park switch (careful, this is a short to ground when parked), and one is pulse switch for the washer. Be very cautious touching B+ to these two terminals.

Be sure you have a good ground to the motor housing. You have high speed, so this should be OK, but double check. Common to have trouble at the ground strap and the mounting bolt that provides ground to the strap.

I finally got off my lazy ass and worked on this yesterday. I did exactly as he laid out. I had B+ on my white wire. I was able to apply B+ to my bottom terminal and get high, to my second up terminal and get low. However, I did not get park on the next terminal. I decided I didn't care if park was broken within the motor and went to the junk yard and got a board out of another truck for 5 dollars. I installed it and BOOM, I had high, low, park, and delay again.

Thank you Dave!
