TYTILIDIE
METH HEAD
So. The other day my wife complained that her truck was making a loud clicking sound. I took it for a ride and heard what sounded like the fan hitting the shroud. Sure enough, the tie down chain link broke. I replaced it and the noise went away.
Later that day, she said the truck is still making a strange noise. I go out and listen to it and sure enough, there is a strange sound. Sounded like the flex plate hitting the cover. So I take the cover off and sure enough, it was digging in to the cover. So I put the truck back and fire it up and the noise was gone but, I look at the converter and it looked like it was wobbling.
Next day, wife says she hears a strange ticking sound. I listen to it and sure enough, it sounds like a very faint knock. Maybe even an exhaust leak. I searched and searched for leaks but the more I thought about it I figured it has to be related to the converter/flexplate area. So I pull the oil filter tonight and cut it open, little to no bearing material. When I say little I mean pretty much non existent. I had to look really hard to find anything.
My thought is that if the crank were bent (causing the wobbling converter) then the bearing would be trashed by now. So I am thinking maybe a front pump bushing? Maybe a cracked or bent flexplate? I inspected the plate best I could and saw nothing wrong.
What do you guys vote for?
I should also note that, the truck seems to vibrate under initial throttle increase. There is virtually no noise when driving but seems that it is trying to bog down here and there. Oil pressure is great, DM shows no knock. Noting smoking/leaking etc.
