WTB: Center console latch spring

Does anyone have one or know a place that sells one?

For those that haven't taken the latch assembly apart, it looks like a flat, slightly curved piece of steel.

I used part of a spring from a Colt .45 magazine spring. It still works really good.

take one from an s10 blazer center console, it is the same, i know. hopefully you have access to a wrecking yard

Thanks for the offer on a whole console, but the rest of mine is just fine. All I need is the spring. :rotf:

I hadn't heard of McMaster but I checked thier online catalog just now. It appears they don't offer that type of spring unless I missed something.

I'll give that a try.

I was at the boneyard last week and saw a few Blazers. It figures that the stupid spring would break the day after I was at the junk yard. :tdown:

The spring is all I need. One too many cycles cold-worked mine to a brittle failure.

Putting on my engineer cap makes me wonder if the engineer that designed it didn't care about keeping the spring's tensile stress under the steel's endurance strength. Then again, finite element analysis software was probably not readily available when such a cheap part was being designed 20 years ago. And even if it was, a thicker spring would make the latch a PITA to open. I digress.

I'd prefer to buy a new OEM one, but don't know where to look.

I guess I could try the boneyard, but with my luck, the replacement will break shortly after I install it.

It's simply a very thin leaf spring (maybe 1" in length) as far as I can tell.

Mine has been broken for years. Since nowadays my truck doesnt get driven often, its never really bothered me to get a replacement spring.

Next time Im at the junkyard, I'll look around. If I can find a few, I'll snag em for everyone.

I have gathered several latches and springs, over the years from all the boneyards that I frequent. Usually the top of the center console is gone or the whole console is gone in most of the trucks that you encounter... Not letting the lid slam shut when you close it helps these live a little longer IMO.

I know it's been a few months, but does anyone have one of these (new or used) they want to sell? $20 is too steep for me for such a small and simple part.

I wonder how far down I would have to set my machine to TIG or MIG the old one back together or if it is even possible. I imagine it would be similar to trying to weld aluminum foil. :rotf:

I have several pulled from first gen s-series by me. I can combine shipping with my propshaft bolts if you get them...
