Or take the coil wire off, easy to pull and hard to replace.
Both of these methods may save your truck from actually being driven away, but the steering column and door will still be f ucked up from the attempt. Ghost Switches and similar strategies keep it from running, but they don't prevent the damage from the attempt. There's no visible evidence that there is difficult to bypass "protection" in place.
Steering column locks offer visual deterrence from outside BEFORE the thief busts your shit up. The downside to column locks is the inconvenience of installing and removing, and stowing it so it doesn't fly around while driving. The ones I've seen are bright orange, and are very visible. IMO, that's the value of the steering column collar. The guy doesn't even bother.
Edit: Typhoons are yesterday's news. I doubt there's much interest in them other than a joyride. But even then thieves know most of the ones left run like shit anyway, so why bother.
