Yes another timing question...

So I got the new distributor in. Truck starts and runs decent. I have read all the threads on setting timing at 0 with the tan and black wire disconnected. I get everything ready to finally get this thing running right. I pull back the carpet and NO wire. I have pulled the carpet up to the center console and don't see the magical wire I need. Has anyone else ever seen this? Thanks in advance for your help...

I would say its closer to being under the dash on the passenger side then under the carpet.

It's supposed to be there, by the underside of the dash board on the passenger side, by the kick panel, where the forward edge of the carpet and the padding meet the metal. :dunno:

Whenever you find it and go set the timing, keep in mind that oftentimes, the harmonic balancer's outer ring spins and throws off the timing marks.

It's actually about in the middle of the passenger's side footwell, just behind the upper edge of the carpet. If you've got a timing light with an offset adjustment you can leave the wire hooked up, set the timing light to the offset shown in the tune, and just set it for TDC.. much simpler :)

Finally had the time to look further for the timing wire and found it farther up on the firewall. Thanks for the help. Now on to the next repair...
