:tdown:Apparently I F*&^%@ the rear main seal when assembling the motor. It's leaking like a sieve. Hope to pull the motor tomorrow, Wed at the latest. Back together by the weekend. But don't bet on it. :rotf: It's possible to change the seal itself I know but if it's not just the seal then what. It's the only way I can be positive I've got everything re-assembled correctly so it dosen't leak again. I've got some help so it should go relatively quickly.

Re: Yuk

that being said, it is not easy anyway, and may not work. Good luck Don

That's why I'm pulling the motor. What's kinda funny is these are the only seals I've ever had a spec of trouble with. The old rope type? No prob.:rotf:

I feel your pain, pulling a syty motor is not a "fun" job no matter what.

Re: Yuk

OK, here's what happened. Question is why. Found the rear seal way off center, at least for a seal. You can actually see the gap. This at the bottom. Top appeared normal. The seal itself showed wear at the top and nothing at the bottom. Obviously this thing was off center for some reason. No doubt I had something to do with it but this much???

Got some hints suggesting I begin assembly without the stud. checking seal alignment, then installing the stud. The old seal material was a reddish material the new seal is Viton. It obviously fits better. I could not even force it to have a gap. With the seal/retainer in place without the stud there is virtually no movement and you have "force" it to do that. Allowing the seal to self-center it's now back together. I'll finish reassembly (mostly just the pan) tomorrow and have it running by Monday. Which for me really means Tuesday.

FYI the new seal is Fel-Pro BS 40626
