I'll get the truck/tranny back tomorrow and I'll plan to let you know how it works...reminder: I had it rebuilt by a local, large, established tranny specialist...pro trans in central pa...several upgrades plus one year warranty... expensive....hope it's worth it... similar build seemed to work great w/ adam's syclone with 20g ...

If you can, let us know what they did to it as well. I doubt if he did what you told him. He more than likely has a certain way he likes to do it. All builders are like that.

Truly hope it all goes well for you man, i had mine burn so quick after this "engineer" did his "adjustments" that im very squeptick on tranny issues now but well i trust you got good information here by all the guys that know and will last long enough. Good luck.

Ps. make sure it shifts HARD or if not then it might go away FAST, im telling you from personal experience

Re: help, no reverse and...

So ...I've driven it about 75 miles since the tranny rebuild...mostly in an effort to tune the alcohol kit... so far so good, no problems...shifts fine/normal for syclone and slightly firmer...also, I can feel lockup more obviously and can feel larger reverse boost valve when putting it in reverse... I don't think it'll need any follow up adjustments... I'll try to post a complete list of changes/mods/labor when I get some more time... I've never seen better customer service than at Pro Trans in State college, PA ----> 2 Syclone trannies with great results so far... the tranny cooler and magnetic inline filter were beautifully done and nice finishing touches.. All work was done on the sy by the owner and the shop's "GM motor head"...they spent lots of extra time and effort on it, kept it inside out of the snow, and answered all my 1,000 questions regarding advice from JWaller and George Blake...most of which they acted upon ...impresswive for a shop that does over a million $ in auto trannies per year(10 full time tranny builders on staff).

Matt

BTW that alcohol is something else...my intake temps started at 80 tonite and ended at 55 on a full pull...didnt just drop(instead of rising)...they dropped alot....and you felt jet-like pull

Re: help, no reverse and...

matt...i had a different experience there than you 2 sy guys. I went there well before the 2 of you and they wanted nothing to do w/ me. I'll tell you about it sometime, but it was funny. Main thing was they would give me no warranty - maybe they didn't think an suv needed power? I dunno....

glad they gave you good service though. Hopefully you got something of a warranty from them too!

Re: help, no reverse and...

yeah, I got a one year warranty.

and BTW, I did another 100 miles today(to work and back plus more tuning) with no obvious tranny problems....I thought I noticed a slight shudder on one or two lo rpm shifts...what is that?? Almost feels like I should have em raise shift points a little... My 500 mile recheck/readjust is coming up... think I should say something?

Just be aware of it. Keep driving it. If it gets more and more apparent, they'll have to see what's wrong. I like to do a break-in period of about 500 miles. It gives the seals time to get heat cycled and the clutches get compressed and anything in the drum that's gonna get shaved off is done then you can change out the fluid and start driving it like you did before you broke it. Do the minimum throttle 1-2 shift, as soon as it shifts into 2nd gear, do a full throttle. It should immediately shift back into first. That'll kinda give you a seat of the pants idea if your pressure is correct. Don't use your TV cable to adjust your shift points.

Is it bad that Jeremy broke in his new 4l80e with 13 awd donuts? :rotf:

Well broke may not be best term since it still runs just fine.

Re: help, no reverse and...

could the shudder(which I barely feel) be related to the more aggresive friction material?

also...I'm trying to track some knock retard issues that seem worse since the tranny build...possible? likely?

Re: help, no reverse and...

it does seem that harder shifting trannies will result in some knock issues at the shifts and at TC lock. tc lock is usually due to increased load and not the harshness of the lockup.

ok here's the list of tranny work done by pro trans:

.500 boost valve plus new sleeve, 2800 stall conv by precision, 4l65e reaction shaft, beast sungear shell, 4L65 sprag/early style one-piece, w/ borg warner 29 element, torrington bearings for shaft, blueprinted/mic'd, hi energy clutches, hi energy 2-4 band, case milled, pump machined, strip whole aqssembly-cook-examine under lites, billet servo(no damper spring), stock valve body(cleaned/polished), larger reverse boost valve plus new sleeve, borg warner rebuild kit, front and rear planets new gm 5 roller, steel clevite bushings w/ bronze facing, tranny cooler plus inline raybestos magnetic filter, new fluid, new tranny filter

works great...tite.

..firmer shifts, but reasonable shifts

Re: help, no reverse and...

That sounds really good. The only thing I wouldn't have done is the billet second servo. A LOT of builders like them though. It eliminates the 3rd gear accumulation so it affects 2nd gear timing and 3rd gear apply. I've had pretty good luck just using the stock 2nd servo with a damper spring and stiffer 3rd accumulator spring. It eliminates the downshift clunk and guys can still break the tires loose on a 1-2 shift. You have any idea how many clutches they put in the 3-4 stack? Most kits only have 6.
