We have narrowed the hotel choices down to 2. Saturday I personally went to both and checked them out, took pics, etc.

Either really will work, but help us decide which you like.

Checked out the 2 hotels today Best Western and Marriot.

I see advantage to each so I will just list the pluses and minuses of each and maybe the staff can comment, and vote.

Marriot

Pluses

  • Cleaner than BW
  • Better location in terms of security ~12 blocks from hiway
  • Lots of food and other stores around (mall just a few blocks)
  • Closer to track (1 mile closer)
  • 92 rooms so we could probably "own" the hotel
  • Staff was friendly
  • Said they would supply buckets/towels for car wash
  • Nice meeting room
  • Nice Outdoor area we could have food catered into.
  • They serve a "fancy" cont breakfast.
  • 2 blocks off main drag, not much if any random people would drive by
  • Easier to get in/out of.
  • Indoor pool
Minuses

  • Parking lot somewhat small, wraps around hotel.
  • Trailers would probably need to be parked ~1 block away in overflow lot in order to have enough room for trucks
  • No pool (nevermind, indoor pool)
  • $79/night
Best Western

Pluses

  • 2 pools, 2 hot tubs
  • Indoor game area with pool, 1 pool is outdoors.
  • Better parking to keep trucks in 1 spot -vs- wrapped around hotel
  • Basketball court
  • Denny's is hooked to it.
  • $10 cheaper ($69/night)
  • Probably more family friendly
Minuses

  • More traffic, not as secure of an area.
  • Harder to get in/out of hotel due to traffic no light.
  • Not as clean or new of hotel
  • Security concerns as would be more traffic, back parking lot would probably be ok and hidden if they would allow us to block that off (near basketball courts)
  • Fear of other guests bitching about our noise/late night.

Re: Help pick the hotel

the only thing I would like is something with good Security, does not have to be a person just the area,I dont want my truck or tow vehicle messed with or broke into.I need to be able to see them both from my room.

Re: Help pick the hotel

Its bowling green ky, so far from the bronx or something.

The Marriot was just more off the beaten path a couple blocks. Best Western is 1 block from I-65, denny's is connected to it so there was more traffic in/out. If we go with BW, I would hope we could block off the back parking lot/hotel rooms facing that direction.

I will say this, if you search both on maps.google.com type in best western bowling green ky, or marriot you will see reviews.

BW got a 2 star, several comments about it being dirty.
Marriot was 4 star

I was not able to go into a room when I was there but the general feel would match the ratings.

I see advantages to both. Marriot does have a indoor pool, hot tub, and fitness area.

Marriot is closer to the mall by a few blocks also. (~4 blocks away)

Re: Help pick the hotel

This seems to be a case where a couple extra dollars will go along ways. Also be nice to basically own the hotel so other guest do not get upset.

Clean, off beaten path 4-star > Dirty 2 star with a Dennys.

Edit: On second thought, the pool/game area and parking lot of the BW looks pretty good. Tough call. :(

Re: Help pick the hotel

It is a tough call.

I'd make the BW out to be less likely to complain about our usual shenanigans.

On the other hand, the other hotel looks nicer.

Is the BW remodeling? All the crates around the outside...?

Bottom line, though, you spend very little time in the hotel, unless it rains.

The BW indoor pool area looks like a good spot for late-night BS sessions...

The sign said it closes at 10:30. So can't be too late.

Other thing is ALL the rooms surrond it, so if we are loud (and it probably echos well) everybody will hear us. Not that we have top secret info, but other guests might want to sleep also.

I was torn also. Nats crew is also I think hence why we made it public poll.

At this point I would say the public is torn 50/50 split right now.

Re: Help pick the hotel

I voted tater tots.

FWIW BW manager told me:

Best Western the total per room with tax is $79.38 ($69.95+tax)

They have armed security for the parking lot.

We can drink,as long as it's in regular cups.

They will block off an area of the parking lot for us that only we will be allowed to enter.

No prob if we go over 35 rooms.

The hotel recently underwent a 5 million dollar renovation. All rooms have 42" flat screen TV's.

Re: Help pick the hotel

Does the Marriot have a problem with us going over 35 rooms?

Denny's in parking lot means no need to risk DWI for late night/early morning eats.

'Owning the hotel' would be nice, less risk of complaints for non Sy/Ty guests.

Off the main drag means most people won't even know we are there, could be better than Barney Fife, plus security is likely to tell us to keep it down.

I won't be there with a trailer, but if I were...

Normally 42" TV's would be a BIG plus, but you can't watch them in the parking lot or at the track. Now if I had a family along...

Catered food, OR burgers on the grill?

Is the BW's rating of 2 stars and a little dirty, before the renovation?

The Marriot's(Courtyard) rating of 4 stars is probably NOT an official AAA 4 diamond rating. I know nobody said that, I'm saying it just so nobody gets the wrong idea.

The Marriot's the nicer hotel but it's more money.

I can see why Nats organizers can't decide, neither can I.

Re: Help pick the hotel

The marriot WILL fit all the trucks, they have 92 rooms, parking for at least that many trucks.

Trailers would probably need to be 1 block over, sounds not as great but it really is a secure area and I wouldn't fear even my truck in that lot. There is also a lot behind hotel that looked like a bank. Banks are not open on sat/sun/friday nights.

Marriot had free wireless for sure, I am fairly sure BW did also.
