I will be surprised it this isn't sold by the end of the day

I've got A LOT of interest, most are out of towners with respectable offers, or locals lowballing me.

Thanks, it is really clean. Paint is faded, but the interior is really nice (for what it is). Most of the cars have been abused and blown up LONG ago, it took me quite some time of craigslist shopping to find this one. The day i found it, i called the guy and drove my truck/trailer 3 hours to pick it up immediately.

Crazy aerodynamic mods, driving habits, and a few tricks that most of us could do.

I'll list what i know from what i've read on the forums...some are crazy, some make sense:

remove one of the cylinder rings for reduced friction like the xfi metros had in 1992
fuel shut off when going down hill
solid wheel caps
exterior mirror delete
antenna delete
tape hood gaps and bumper gaps
don't go over 45 mph
don't go over 2500 rpms
inflate tires to 9.6^10 psi
swap 4 cylinder 5spd trans in place of 3 cyl 5spd trans (taller gear)
sheet metal the entire lower part of car to make it flat (aero)
fender well covers
preheat fuel going into engine
play with timing
lean out engine

I'd love to have that car for work. If my current car wasn't fine I'd definitely buy that.

Wow, guys on metro forum are picking me apart. they want detail shots of the interior, under, maintenance history documented, an excel spreadsheet of every time the car was farted in, everything. LOL I guess those guys don't have a lot of money and want the perfect $2k car? I sold my 99 corvette last year after a 10 minute test drive and a handshake.

anyways, i took some hi res shots of interior for them, so i'll share here. I really don't mind doing request pics, i just get a kick out of these cult following metro guys.

they both have their pros and cons. biggest con of TDI is maintenance (at least the ones i've seen my friends own). maintenance bills far negate any MPG savings.

Worse yet. Fuel pumps are disintegrating and contaminating the whole fuel system-some are rather low mile cars too! :(

-but I would do a TDI too.

Posting here would sell fast I bet:

So.....find a better job to waste your increase more freely so in the end, you are still left with a net 0??? Not very good advice....

The wise and prudent man realizes early in life that a penny saved is a penny earned, however that is legally achieved. That mentality has helped position me from an early age to buy what I want when I want without the aid of a lending agency.

I did. Commute went from 12 mi both ways to 32mi one way.

Ended up trading the Yukon for a Focus. Close to $450 in savings in fuel cost alone.

Probably wasn't worth worrying about, right?:roll:

Total BS. You and your brother are just spending your daddy's money.

Amirite?

Cute. If I was spending his money, I would have a Carrera GT parked in the garage of my new home in Rudolphtown. What I spend now is the result of my hard work and wise investing. If you would do either of those, it would work for you too

:dunno: diesels require far less maintenance than a gas engine does.

I only have to do an oil change every 10,000 miles and a timing belt every 100,000 miles. Anything else is just normal wear and tear like any other car, plus it will outlast most gas engines on the road today.

strictly comparing a diesel engine to a gas engine, i completely agree.

however, the VW's and other euro vehicles always have peripheral stuff breaking (electronics, water pumps, etc) that drive maintenance costs up. Just my 2 cents based on limited experience within my peer group. However, you can see in my first post what i'm considering getting :)

what diesel do you have?

I really wish i had a diesel truck for towing. My 1500 does fine 95% of the time, otherwise i'm knocking on parents door to borrow their 3500 about once every 2 years.
