I was thinking of going with orange or bright ass lime green. ;)

I'm not too worried about "how much weight" the paint is going to "add" to the truck, mainly because it will still be less than how much weight of grime and oil and shit was stuck to the outside of the motor.

The new gauges. Gonna get speedhut to make me a new RPM gauge and 86 the boost gauge off of it since I'm not gonna have a need for it.

Okay, time to reach out to the board for a little more advice, suggestion, etc.

Spring time is getting here and I'm ready to drive this truck.

The block is out of the truck and ready to go to the machine shop. I am thinking that if I can find a machine shop that will do it, go ahead and having them install the long block and dropping it into the truck.

Pretty much the idea would be to take them the block, have them do their work, build the long block, then have the truck taken to the shop and the long block dropped in. That would save me a bunch of time, since Sundays are really the only days that I have to work on this truck, plus the bell housing, motor mounts, trans etc will be reconnected. Granted those don't take a whole ton of time, just the aggravation and PITA of reconnecting them. With the long block installed, the truck could be brought back to my garage, where the upper part of the motor can be put in and start re-connecting all of the hoses, sensors, wiring, etc.

Here is a quote that I got from a local shop. It may be that I am not used to the cost to rebuild performance engines, but the price seems fairly steep to me, considering the fact that I would already be supplying most of the replacement parts and that the motor is already removed from the truck and stripped down to just the block, pistons, timing chain and oil pan.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I hate to say it but those estimate are high especially if you are providing all the parts. I would just order a long block from one of the vendors on the board and just drop it in yourself.
Go to sytyperformance.com or contact jwaller or nolan at Campbell automotive. also do not for get about sportmachine guys that are doing builds on these trucks also.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking as well, but want to get some thoughts from you all here since you have more experience on pricing for these things. Going to reach out to some more shops and get some ideas and going to reach out to the vendors here as well.

Looking over some bills that others have had done now and comparing the cost/amount of work done to the invoice that I got. Don't really want to send this out of state, but... :rotf:

You should be able to install a motor in 2-6 hours by yourself. Its not that bad.

My local performance machine shop quoted me about 2500 for a engine rebuild w/o parts.

The install part I'm not too bad about. Its probably worth the $160+tax to me just to get them to drop the block in it and me not to have to f- with the bell housing, motor mounts and trans.

It's the more $2500 of machine work and block rebuild that I am wondering if it's on the high end or not. JJ (GarnetTy1473) just shot me over a fax from when he had his done so I am comparing the two. Granted, two different shops and two different builds are going to give two different quotes, but it appears that his build was similar to what mine is and his pre-tax total was $1623.17 (w/o install). Doing some more research as well. It's the last day of the month and trying to close out end of month while doing research for this as well. :roll:

Needing to plant a new money tree. My woman was bitching the other day and asked how much $ I have spent so far on the truck since December. Of course I lied. She said I coulda just bought her a GUCCI bag, but I responded that won't bring any enjoyment to me. So yeah, she got a little pissed, but she'll get over it.

Just ordered some new SRP Pistons and Eagle H rods. :tup: I was holding out on them until the block was torn apart, but after speaking with Tom @ Sportmachines, others advice and convincing myself that I don't want to do this shit again because something internal broke, I went ahead and just told the machine shop to order me a set. As far as my woman knows, they cost me $26.86.

Speaking of which, dropped the block and heads off at the machine shop yesterday. Said they will be done in aboot 2 weeks. So Mid-Tenn people, when we having a re-build party? I will supply food, beer and some Tiger Blood. RAWR!

Yesterday also spoke (briefly) with Tom @ Sportmachines (Which just reminded me that I forgot to call him back after the truck was unloaded). Via the quick phone calls and emails back and forth, got some great advice. :tup: Wishing that I had the time, money and patience to just say "F-It" and have the entire truck sent up to New York and just fly in and drive it home when done, but like I said, I need to plant another money tree first.

So now I have a laundry list of things to get done before the motor gets back, which includes, yet is not limited to:
Putting the gauge cluster and bezel back in.
Connecting the gauges that will go in the pillar pod and running them to the engine bay.
Do some "fresh up" painting inside the engine bay.
Actually, who cares. There's always going to be something to do. Need to make sure to keep my ass motivated until then.

Still looking for a VAC LINE KIT if anyone wants to trade.

Oh yeah, need to get my chip sent to Hood too so it's already done when the truck gets finished.

I sat in it this morning before work and made "vroom vroom" noises. It's nice out today, too. :rant:

Pretty shitty picture because of the way the sun was reflecting into the garage so I shall attempt to take a better pic after work tonight that includes the Autometer Cobalt pillar gauges.

Stopped by the machine shop yesterday to drop off a few more parts and progress is being made on the block.

They called to order some SRP pistons from their supplier (Which I assumed they did last time I spoke with them, but apparently not). Their supplier didn't have them and referred them to someone else. Called them and they said "about $1100 for the pistons and it will take about 5 weeks because we will have to make them". Uhh...wtf. So once they tell me what bore we're looking at I'll be getting some pistons from either someone here or Sportmachines.

BTW, need a new Vac ball if anyone has one laying around. Realized that the nipple thingie was broken on mine, so guessing that could be the culprit of why I lost cruise control and my heat only worked on HIGH and through the vents.

I'm just rambling now. Just got to work. Bored. I'll be back later.

BTW, anyone local want these rear leaf springs? $80! COME GET EM!
