Another intake question?

Well, when I got Syclone it had a custom air box that had a rectangle k&n filter. Well, I have been wanting to put a cone into it, and I think I can run the same air box. Should I do this, or just run no box at all? If no box, where would I put the pcv hose? Please post any amount of info you have, or of any other posts that talk about this. Thanks

Re: Another intake question?

The pcv hose has to be connected after the filter.. drill a hole and pop her in there

heh, thanks boosted! So what about the box thing, I do need a box?

Are you referring to the stock air intake setup? or something else?

I would suggest ditching the stock cross over pipe (runs over the radiator) because they have proven to kill many turbos in the past with pieces of them chipping or cracking off and getting sucked into the turbo. Plus not only will it help get cooler air to the turbo.. but the closer you get the filter to the inlet of the turbo, the louder the spool noise is :) but also the kick down gets louder too

I have a custom air box built by the previous owner with a batterey relocation. Should I keep that?

I would keep it.. cooler air = more hp

These trucks don't get v8 loud man.. That's one thing I miss with my sc fox mustangs.. but my ultraflow muffler, 3" exhaust and electric exhust cut out helps make it louder then normal though :) but that's a whole different animal.. keep your cai

Well, as I was puting my filter into the very anoying cold air box, I started thinking. If I have the stock intercooler, which I do, what does it matter how cold the air is if the water is not getting cooled more than the radiator temp anyways. Sorry for this stupid question once again, but I need to understand TURBO VEHICLES! :(

If i'm reading this correctly you think the I/C and the radiator share the same fluid. If that is your thinking they do not, they're independent systems from each other. Your I/C will stay much cooler then your radiator fluid, or it should be atleast ;)

No matter the setup, the colder the air the more power it will make, all things being equal

Huh, well what kind of fluid is supposed to be in the intercooler, when I got the truck in december, it had radiator fluid in it. Can someone post up pic's on how it is supposed to be set up?

Re: Another intake question?

Depending on where you live and how much you use the truck you may have to run radiator fluid to keep it from freezing. If it doesn't freeze then you can change it out for other alternatives, there are many posts on different combos to try.

It matters a fairly large amount. Massively, in fact.

Read:

http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/turbo/turboflow.html

Particularly the part about: How Hot is the Air Coming out of the Compressor?

Short version... hotter inlet makes for very much hotter (more than the difference in inlet temps) outlet.

Also, the intercooler runs on its own closed system... the only thing it has to do with coolant temp, is that the stock chip won't start the pump until coolant temp is fairly warm.
If you have an aftermarket chip, or a IC pump switch, it runs when the key/switch is on.

Re: Another intake question?

I guess the person that had my truck before hot wired it, without any switch. Can someone find a post that talks about this. Do I need a switch.

Re: Another intake question?

leave it hotwired. It works better if it runs whenever the ign. is on. In california I just ran watter and "water wetter". Water cools better then anti-freeze. I would use as little as possible.

Re: Another intake question?

I will go ahead and leave it hot wired, but when I just have the ign. on, I have this very anoying buzz from the IC pump. What Ic pump works great, but is still quiet.

Air intake hose problem

Air intake hose problem

I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a new air intake hose for my truck, goes into the air filter box itself and it's orange.
thanks
