Ok, I was able to fit the 5.3 and 4l80e in with a few taps of a hammer (2 and 3lbs hammers). The clearence needed is about an inch and a half, all in the bell housing. (in my ty at least, these trucks may not be the same) Everything fit perfect, Thanks turbotime. Here is some pics. This is 5.3 ls base motor, 4l80e, in my ty. http://s293.photobucket.com/albums/mm54/zakariya_typhoon/

rwd only?

also did you remove your center console or i guess at a minimum how does this effect things on the other side, under the dash etc?

Yeah, that is the next stage, front diff. I dont know how you guy's got that big ass oil pan to fit, without droping the front diff. I got pissed and removed it. I have to put that back in and check for clearence. I will keep the all wheel drive for shure. Mightymouse, I didn't check behind the fire wall for wires. I figured that I would be just pushing that stuff up and back abit. I didn't think there would be any issues with that. Now you got me worried. I figure if I did pinch a wire harness I should be able to fix it. I'll take a look alittle later. Visually I cant see anything that has changed in the interior or dash area.

Thanks, I hope this helps fellow sytyers get passed the 4l80e/ls1/turbotime issue.

I did notice that the driver side head is really close to the fire wall, and was wondering if you guy's had this issue? I have not made my trany mount yet, maybe the trans is siting crooked on the blocks, makeing my D/S head sit closer to the firewall. I was going to make my own trans mount but if this will save me time I may buy the mount from turbo time. Does it work with the ls1/4l80e swap? Or is it just for the v6/4l80e?

This thread makes me sad.

I haven't sold my foam LSx block yet, and it sounds like I should go ahead and buy the foam 4L80E too for fitment issues.

Well, I banged out the tunnel once and put the the motor and trans in. Alittle under 2 inch's above the pintch weld. I bang'd it up untill it stoped. I think I have plenty room. The hardest part for me was getting the big @$$ oil pan pass the front diff.

I saw this asked before, but does this interfere inside much??

Also, did you try to put the engine in with the tranny attached?? I couldn't get it past the front diff with them together, so I dropped it in separately and it went in relatively easy

I do CNC'd tubular crossmembers for the 4L80e's. I'm really surprised people are still hell bent on trying to make stuff instead of getting something that is already known to work. Unless Eric has copied mine (I doubt he'd do something like that), mine should be the only ones available specific to the 4L80e syty setup. Sparkwire used mine and it went right in.

george, i was trying to use your mount.. but hooking the 80 to the 4.3 vs hooking the 80 to the ls1 requires the 80 to be an inch or so higher up... so i guess at a minimum a spacer would be needed? i never got that far to check the angle.

yes, he is not using the turbotime pan or mounts
edit
(so i believe his ls engine will be sitting as low as (where) the 4.3 did. which makes sense to me and was what i was expecting to happen with the TT stuff.)

Rodger isn't saying anything right now. I'm wondering if design changes are being made to allow LS engines to go in without making them sit so much higher. It's not worth it to have to cut the floor or raise the body on every swap if you don't need to.

I got a PM from Rodger and he stated that his mounts do indeed measure differently than the TT mounts. I'm buying the foam 4L80E after we move for mocking purposes and will documet the findings in my build thread. I do have the LQ4 in the truck with the 700R4, and it does seem to sit awfully close to the firewall, but does not hit. It is a noticeable difference than the V6 height when working back there with the bolts.

I have a 80e empty case I used for mockup. Empty cases are not heavy at all if you want to save a few bucks over foam.

Considering the money spent so far, I am not scared of 400 more. They also re-sell rather well as I have tons of people wanting my mock LSx block
