Co-worker challenged me with bike...

A guy I work with wants to race my Ty. I don't know much about bikes but it's a 600cc stock bike and he's only had it for a week.

Funny thing is he wants to race from a dead stop, first one to 100mph and he's willing to put $100 on it. :D

I'm pretty sure I can beat this guy, plus an extra $100 bucks would be nice. I just don't want him to get hurt trying to do too much on that thing. His previous bike was a chopper so I dunno how well he can ride this rocket.

What do you guys think??

I had a stock 600 F-3 in 97 that I ran 11:00hs all day long. If he can remotly ride your gonna have your hands full.

Also, something to think about:
new rider + 600 sportbike + racing in 1st week of ownership = prime candidate for a trip to the morgue. I suggest you let him gain some experience before racing him.

Race him 0-60 only. You will probably jump on him at launch and suprise him, and would prob. lead to 60mph but then he would reel You in and probably beat You if Your tuck still runs 13s like it is in Your sig... Dont put money on it tho.

Not a good idea to race to a certain mph with a bike (unless it's 60mph or less). What you have to consider is that it's going to take you more than 13.5 seconds to reach 100mph. No way (unless he's a horrible driver) that it'll take that bike that long. Heck, it'd be close in the 1/8th mile.........an absolute slaughter in the 1/4.

Only chance you have (as I see it) is for him to be a horrible driver. I'd run for fun, but no money involved IMO.

I agree w/Rick - although he does have experience riding he might have a better chance of NOT killing himself.

I think you'll get taken up to a 100. If he tries to get you to 60 - he'll probably pull a wheelie and back off. After 60 - he'll start to reel you in.

Man I didn't know those things are capable of 11.00's!

I just really don't think he can ride that bike at all, but I also don't want to see him get hurt either. I just think he'd see my launch and panic an try to do too much. But I think I'll just run him in the 1/8th and give him a scare. Thanks for the helpful info fellas! Saved me some cash.

Assuming he is a good rider, he will pass you before you hit 60mph. My friend can hit 100 on his R6 in literally, a few seconds.

Just verified it's a Yamaha YZF.

I don't believe in racing by what's on paper, especially with bikes. I think it all depends on the rider. There's no guarantees really, it's just something about this guy. He's way to cocky and way too inexperienced IMO. I don't think I have the fastest truck, I just like my chances especially with him.

I've never had the chance to put 110 in the Ty, and I've also not had the chance to bump the boost to 21lbs with the racing chip I've got. But I like it the way it is for now. 8)

your fooked if he can ride. if he cant then you have a chance. thats the way it always goes down with bikes.

the first month of ownership/ridership with my 929 I went to the track and pulled a 10.7@135. with a 2.5 60'. how big is this guy? whats he weight? it's more important with 600's but being as it's new and a yamaha...then it's goin to be a tough go of it. you'd be better off racing him to 60 feet not 60mph.

The bottom line is I know this guy. And I know he don't know how to ride a bike, let alone a rocket. I know some riders, some good friends rolling GSXR1000's, RR's, R1's and even GSXR750's. I know who the riders are and this guy ain't one of them.

This is his first rocket, he used to own some older harley that looked like something a female would ride. Like something that shouldn't have been a harley. This is a learning experience for him hence the reason why he has a 600cc, a fairly easy (not balls-to-the-wall fast) bike that will be a great learning experience. Only NOW I know that these bikes are very capable of low 11 second second passes therefore I've been skepticle.

I originally wanted to race him to 100mph. Call me crazy, but I thought I had a good chance at it cause I know he can't ride. Then I thought about other shit: is it really worth it? what if the guy gets hurt? shit like that.

We're gonna go out and run 'em tommorow anyways, not for money just for fun. I'd like to see what he's got. I would very confidently bet money that I beat him 0-60. And if I've got him at 60mph you best believe I'm not letting off until 100. Either way, thanks for all the feedback. It was very helpful. I just don't think this guy's got it. If he does I will take him out and have a we'll couple ::brews:: on me.

You do realize that unless you have some work done you will never reach 100 in the quarter. he on the other hand will be going 122 if he's got the knads to hold on........... Find something else to do before you guys do something stupid and sombody gets hurt.

Being a 600 it's got less power than the gsxr1000 I have, and it's a lot harder to bring that front wheel off. You have to try and get the front wheel up on a 600, on my 1000 if you gun it, that front wheel is coming up whether you like it or not. 600s take me off the line (since I haven't mastered the take off), but I catch up quick. So just cause it's a 600 doesn't mean it's slow, or slower than a bigger bike. It comes down to the rider. But the rider can only do so much... after a point it's all about the bike regardless of riding skill. This guy seems to me like he's a squid...so you'll probably get him to 60. After that if he's on the gas and not on the ground, he'll blow right by you. If he does gun it off the line and loops the bike, don't run over him and/or the bike... you might damage a tire. if it were me on my bike, you'd probably get me 0-60... at which point you look out the window as I wheelie past you to 100. Try and knock some sense into this squid though... you don't go racing a bike the first week you get it. i road a cruiser a couple times, and did the dirt bike thing a while and I wasn't even really comfortable on mine for the first month. Seriously, this guy needs to chill out with his macho man ego.
