damn this video noise...

i have a pioneer AVX-9000R(brain) and 7000(indash) set up in my phoon...

i have had the system running for a few weeks now, and since the first day i've had nothing but problems in trying to get rid of the video distorition i get while the motor is running. When i first installed it was the same thing, so i took the crappy wires i had running to my stock radio harness and rewired my tv power and ground to more stable connections in/near my fuse box... well, this didn't help, and after about a week of driving around dealing with this, i got tired of it... and ran both my power and ground in 14gauge form to the back of my truck(rear mount battery) because i had read that that the brain and monitor would be out of sync with different grounds, well, that did shhh. so weeks later brings me to tonight, and this step, my last. I tried 2 different noise filters from the back of old/parts radios i found at a friends house, and still no luck... i'm running out of ideas aside from finding/buying other filters, and that seems kinda pointless right now since neither of the two i tried made any difference at all... and yeah, i tried them both at the connections(pre brain/monitor) and just pre-tv... no luck either way, thanks for any advice, i hope to get this thing working sometime.... it really sucks having music videos look like utter shhh while i'm driving around, not that i stare at them or anything, but the comments form passengers gets me pissy.

Ps: i heard some crap about maybe sparkplugs causing it, and as of last week(s) my truck has a whole new IGN. so that can't be it.... And i was also wondering would having my Battery>15 farad Cap>Car system cause this? the wires are run right off the battery terminal and the cap is before the cars electrical system.

Re: damn this video noise...

Is this an audio wine or video (visual) distortion? Your ground should be at least the same size as the power wire and as short as possible. When you connect the ground to the chasis, make sure there is no paint or material. Take some sandpaper or a flat blade screwdriver and scrape the metal bare. Good luck.

so i don't follow...you have the units powered right from the batter now, or to your fuse panel?

Do you have a video camera that you can take a clip of what its doing? Its tough to tell from your description. Video distortion could be lots of things...like possibly the connection from the brain to the screen unit. I have an old eclipse unit (their first one) and it is starting to have some issues at the brain unit from being kicked around over the years. I think its simply just the solder points from the connector to the boards inside the brain. If your stuff is new, it shouldn't be this....but its something easy to check.

Try wiggling the main connection from the brain to the screen while its playing...right at the brain unit...and see if it makes the video distort on command. Could also just be a cut in that wire somewhere.

Re: damn this video noise...

right now the monitor is powered right from the battery, i have tried a few different ground locations under the dash and nothing worked so that's when i ran it back to the battery its' self.

and, if i can't figure anything else out i will shoot a vid clip of it...
but i'm sure it isn't the cable from the brain to the monitor because my video is clear as day when the key is turned off.

and it's hard to describe, but when i start the truck, it starts showing a crap load of small horizontal lines going up and down the screen and with higher rpms it just gets worse.

Re: damn this video noise...

where do you have your power wires and video cable run. if they are close to other power wires, your main wiring harness, etc...you might be getting noise from other electronic devices. I'd try running the wires w/o hiding them just so you know nothing is touching/near them...and see if you get the same problem

Re: damn this video noise...

well, the power wires from the battery are run thought the pass. side and the video wires are run thought the middle and the power wires for the monitor are run thought the drivers side so i don't see that as being the problem but i think this afternoon i'm going to go over to my evil electronic genius's house and have him look over it.

hmm....thats must look pretty bad
Do you have any caps on your system? I'm wondering if its maybe the charging system thats causing it. Its weird that it only happens w/ the car on. Do you have any friends w/ a capacitor you can quickly hook up and try

Re: damn this video noise...

well never made it over to the mad house for testing...
and uh,
And i was also wondering would having my Battery>15 farad Cap>Car system cause this? the wires are run right off the battery terminal and the cap is before the cars electrical system.

i was told that a ground loop isolator might help my cause but... i don't see that, as i have everything a/v running to the same ground point which should eliminate the need for one...
oh well, there's always tommaro, i'm thinking of running a new ground from my head as the one that was going to the battery is being grounded on the inner fender well and that might not be getting enough flow...

and uh, is there anything i could look for on datamaster that would explain this problem?

Re: damn this video noise...

try grounding to the block instead of to the fender.

datamaster...the only thing to really monitor is your volts - but its mostly be helpful if you could tell when your video was distorting vs. volts.

One thing you could try is unplugging your alternator to see if that makes the distortion stop. Then you'd know if its just the charging itself. Other than that, the first thing i'd do is run all new wiring and run it in plain view to ensure no interference. I had a radar detector that went on the fritz when the power wires were near my stereo's power wires. Other than that i have no experience w/ the issues you're having. My video has always been clean otherwire. So i'm just throwing some ideas out for you to try in case you haven't tried/though of them yet.

good luck though

Re: damn this video noise...

well after trying about 4 inline filters over at my friend joe's house...
he said the next step would be shielded power wire...
but he saod he'll to attempt to build me a filter in a few days first.

and thanks for the suggestions...

Re: damn this video noise...

Sounds like you need to install a distribution block and run all of your Audio/Video power leads from that. You can isolate the block with a supressor so anything connected to it would also be isolated. More importantly... ALL of your video leads should be shielded and run a different route from the power leads. (EX:power wires down passenger side and video wires down drivers side) Audio is not that necessary but can help. Having the ground wire both short and big are good recomendations. I also agree, scrape away to bare metal for the ground and don't use an area of tin... screw it into good heavy metal like the frame (or similar, frame may be overkill but wouldn't hurt any).

Good luck, I hope this helps you out.

Re: damn this video noise...

yep, the problem is still just as there as ever...
and they are ran from a set of distro. blocks... they're just right off the battery terminals so i didn't figure to meantion them...

could you point me towards a supressor you think might work in my case?

i'll keep you guys updated on the progress of this, as i don't see it being an easy fix any time soon.

Re: damn this video noise...

Here are some Lightning products.
Use the menu to the left and you should be able to find anything you may need.

I don't mean to say you have anything wrong, just something to read and see if you may have a problem with your wiring. I didn't have time to read through it so it may not even help at all but it seems that there may be some good informationthere.

Re: damn this video noise...

what kind of battery are you running? is it fully charge? are any of your power wires running near the video wires? hows the ground wire? any amps that you are running?

Re: damn this video noise...

i'm running a optima yellow top in the back of my truck.
no, none of the video wires are ran anywhere near the power wires, which are both 0gauge, from the battery to the 15farad cap, and from there to the engine bay.

and, no i'm not running any subwoofer amps right now.

i'm fairly certain it's not in my wiring as i've tried a few different setups, i'm starting to think it's everywhere in my system, and i need to either find out what it's from... or how to get it out of just my power source for the monitor.

Re: damn this video noise...

it sounds like an alternator noise. are you running two batterys? i was haveing the same problem with my acura legend with a system and tv. turned ou that my battery was not fully charged

Re: damn this video noise...

nope, just one battery.
and, i get like 13.4-.8 volts when it's running so i know the battery is getting a charge.

anyone know what wire(s) i can yank off the atl. when it's running to see it that's causing it?
