Engine build.

Re: Engine build.

Well I got my pro gram 4 bolt mains and front main cap and installed them yesterday.
I also got the 67mm turbo, downpipe, injectors and a multichip from rpm ordered. I decided to stay on gas and go with alky injection for the street and c16 for the track since I dont really drive the truck that much other then to race.

I am really more focused on the 1/8th since we run more of that around my parts then the 1/4th. My goal is to get the truck to run in the 6's in the 1/8th. Cant wait to finish the truck.

Should have asked earlier, hope you had block filler put in that stock block before machining. The block itself is the weak link. A few guys on here will tell you that from experience. You may be ok with 600hp, but if you ever want to crank that sucker up a bit more it would give you a little more insurance.:2cents:

Re: Engine build.

i mite be in the minority but i have 76mm turbo remember you say you want 600 hp but if you were going 9's on the gto when you start running low 11"s or hi 10's you going to want to go faster . so will your turbo be enough well ? .so i would consider better a larger turbo, just in case you need more .with a small rear housing on the exhaust ,so you wont loose a lot of the hole.:2cents:

Re: Engine build.

So you got a 67 from RPM? Too bad....the BatMo66 would have been a bad-ass piece!

For this syclone yes. This is the one building for the wife. I have another syclone that is for me and I will be going with a batmo on that one. I am only shooting for 10's so I shouldn't need more turbo for this build. The truck is pretty light and I have a set of dr's for the rear plus caltracs and coil overs all around and when she drives that a extra 150lbs of weight savings over my big ass.. The main thing is getting out the hole quick esp for the 1/8th which is what we run here the most. Anything in the 6's on this truck and that is enough.

Hell the wife was to scared to drive the other race cars so she gets to drive the street truck.

The batmo 72 is going on my sy with the bigger build. Work keeps me from building them both at the same time. But soon I will start on mine.

Asked alot earlier lol. Block already has a short fill:tup: !60 stat and a extra oil cooler with fan. I had talked with alex when I bought his vortec heads and also told me to make sure I have the oil cooler with the block fill.

Re: Engine build.

Sounds like your a few steps ahead of me....Good job, I also did a short block fill with a big external oil cooler, drive it on the street quite often, no probs yet.

Re: Engine build.

Man this thread is old but thought I would give a update. I went overseas for awhile so didn't get to finish the truck yet but now that I am back I plan to finish it up. Motor is ready and all parts recieved, just have to pull the old motor out and put in the new motor and all new parts and turbo ect. Going to be some work but should be fun. Would be nice to have this syclone running again.

Re: Engine build.

cool..post up some pix, even if it's a motor on a stand. What did you decide for injectors sizes for your goal?

Can I post pics from facebook on here lol. I don't have a photobucket account.
Went with 67lb injectors with a multi chip from rpm/nolan or who ever makes them. I will take some more pics once I find a way to post them here. Just for shits here is a vid from import vs dom shootout my gto running n/a last round in the street tire class. 1/8th I should just go make a vid of the syclone parts and engine at least I can post vids.

Re: Engine build.

I just read this thread now im going throw my 2 cents in here before you waste your money. I dont think this combo is going to get you into the 10s on race gas. Deep 11s maybe 10s are going to be tough even at sea level tracks. Your #67 injectors will struggle support 10.50s. #84s would be best. Twin intanks fuel pumps are ok,but you will have to run a much larger feed line to support that kind of power. Id prefer a single large pump sumped tank and a -10 feed with a -8 return. Turbo 72mm will get you 10.70s 74m will get you to to 10.50s with out removing all the excess weight from the truck . Did not see anything on intercooler But a RPM Air to Air will get you into the 10s however you will need to use meth injection to keep the AIT temp under 125*. A 415 cam is to small for turbos that size, 422 be ok but not optimized. A multi chip for you tune will be a nightmare you would be better served with a stand alone system. And then theres all the suspension tuning to get it down the track. these are just a few thing i noticed.. In any case i wish you well. Id love to see some pics of you build as well.

Re: Engine build.

if you really want to to go fast, go with a ls1 block. it cheeper to built, it handels alot more power. and you can get it for 1/2 the price, you will be spending on a v6 engine. and not only that, how long will the v6 last going 10's not long if you calculate the money you will be spending on a v6. if not ask everyone who has built a v6 how much they have spend i spend twice what i would have spend if i would have built a v8.know if you go v6 to have what the car came with then that another story .:2cents:go luck on you built ...

Ya I was wondering about the fuel pumps to, I have a a1000 sitting in the house just in case, just have to order the lines and fittings. As far as 10's go that is just a side goal really since this truck is for my wife to race. What ever we can get it to run is what it will be. Just doing a mild build so the wife can race to when I am at the track running my 2nd gto or my camaro. I also will be running a meth kit aswell. The truck has dropped alot of weight and will be losing more with the 4link setup, it already has the a/c removed and front rpm coil overs and the driver is only 110lbs so that should help, rather then my 260lb ass. Oh and yes the wife has raced many times she went 9.20's in one of the gto's.

I have pics just dont have a way to post them. I guess I will get a photobucket account and get them up.

No offense but to me 10's are not that fast anymore, but I do want to keep the truck a v6. I could and have done v8 swaps into a reg s10 if that was my goal. Now I am picking up another syclone so maybe that one will get a v8swap but not the one I have now. Also I am very much aware of the prices to build the ls series engines, I have built 3 ls2/3 gto's one turbo and two stroker engines with nitrous.

The syclone had a rod knocking which is why I started to rebuild the engine and just fig I might as well get better parts then stock and make it a bit faster while I am at it. But I do aggree with you that a v8 would be much better overall if the goal was just speed.
