G3 adapter question

I bought my ostrich today and got the g3 with socket and chip also. I was under the assumption that tunerpro could load the bins into the chip, but that does not seem right. Do I also need a burner, or to have my bins burned by someone to the chip on the adapter.

I was planning use the g3 as a g1 to get a good stockish tune dialed in save that and then push it a bit to see what kind of boost(likely around 18-20lbs) I can keep under control with the alky. I want to have maybe 3 bins on the chip, stock, faster and security.

The G3 is actually kind of complex to use. I still don't totally get the burning process but I can help you a little.

You want to turn the dial to 0 or 1. Then you need to make sure that the jumpers are in their right places for what chip you are using or if you are using your Ostrich. I don't have mine in front of me now but have one hooked up in a truck I am currently tuning and could let you know tomorrow.

Now you want to plug your Ostrich cable in to the G3 and I think the red strip goes all the way to the left. If you bought the "remote", make sure it is set to 1.

Now go make your BINS and save each one separate. Paul helped me a ton on this and I remember how to do most of it but you WILL absolutely need a burner to put BINS in to that chip, then you can select which BIN you want to use like an Ultimate chip. I will be doing a write up soon as I am very close to being done with this tune on the TY I have here. I will do a write up and post it up. May be a week or two though.

A multichip is *not* a beginner operation. Much better to start with single bins in the ostrich, and then compile a set of bins once you have your tuned worked out.

Little-known, but you can actually get a different ribbon cable for the ostrich and program multichip bins into it.

Dig, I was actually going to ask that question. Would you mind posting what it would take to have an ostrich with multi-bins and a switch to switch between them? I haven't seen much info on this.

You likely never will. It is a PITA to explain but once you do it it isn't the end of the world. I am not sure but I thought I saw a how to on Moates.net. Setting up the Ostrich I imagine wouldn't be much different than set up the G3?

Good god. All this Moates and BIN and G3 talk is scarring the poo out of me. I hope it's easier to actually do, than it is to explain!

They're talking about stuff you don't need to know initially. Once you get it all hooked up, it's not bad at all.

You do the exact same thing you do when burning a hard chip... G3 with the switcher.
The Ostrich needs a 32-pin socket on the ribbon cable. Then, the XDF file in tunerpro has to be set up to use the larger device size.

An XDF could be set up so that you could edit each position of the multichip independently with the ostrich, so you wouldn't have to re-assemble the bin each time. This would take quite a bit of work to create, though.
Not to mention, everytime we'd change the XDF definition, there would be 16 changes to make in this file.
