Gah!!! Won't start! Clues?

Okay... every once in a while my Ty will have a very rough idle at start, but it always corrects itself within a few seconds and I'm happily motoring away.

This morning, it didn't correct itself, and so I turned it off (rather than watch it struggle), and unfortunately I haven't been able to get it started since.

It tries to idle at ~550 rpm and stumbles and then dies within 3-5 seconds. Sometimes it won't even last 1 second. Leaving the trucklet alone for 10 minutes it'll at least go back to starting for a few seconds.

All gauges look fine, though the volts gauge is a little on the low side since it's not idling high enough. Giving it gas just kills it.

Is this something common I just haven't experienced yet, or is something actually wrong here? Any quick fixes? I'm considering yanking the ECM fuse for 30 seconds to see if that clears it up.

Thanks!
Clint

Update!!

After leaving the trucklet alone for about 20 minutes, it actually tried to idle for ~15-20 seconds!

Weird. Anyone have -any- ideas?

sounds like an overall tune-up.

I'd look into sensor readings for a posible bad sensor. check out datamaster.

Acts like mine did when I cranked the AFPR down too much when adjusting for smog. Fuel pump? Fuel pressure? Fuel filter?

And, like what was mentioned above, have you tuned it up lately?

I agree that it seems like it's out of gas. It was too cold to stay outside and diagnose (especially with the roomate's Galant VR4 in pieces in the garage right now) and I got a ride to work.

I agree that a tune-up should happen, but I've never, ever seen a car go so out of tune overnight. It was running absolutely fine less than 12 hours earlier.

Fuel Filter and/or pump are good possibilities. I hope not though. Too cold to mess with either right now.

Cap/Rotor are another good possibility.

I'll see how it starts tonight when I get home. I hope my ears don't freeze off walking home from the Metro (subway) station tonight.

I'll be so happy in a few weeks when the TTA has it's tranny/torque converter rebuilt/replaced. Then I'll have a 'spare' car again for situations like this.

You don't have the Ultimate, and have it in security mode, do you? Just throwing out another idea.

It looks like the stock chip is in there.

What is security mode? How do I reset or whatever? Pull the ECM Fuse?

If you have the stock chip, then forget what I said. Some of the non-stock chips, such as the Ultimate have a security mode that you can dial several different settings, one of which was security mode that would not allow you to start the vehicle due to it cutting the fuel off.

Sorry, it was a long shot.

Quick update...

Resetting the ECM doesn't help any.
When roomate gets home, gonna get him to see if he can hear the pump when I turn the key to on. But since it will run momentarily, I suspect the pump's working fine.

So far it's pointing to a clogged fuel filter. I can only hope it's that easy.

Keep the ideas coming.

i dont know about a cliogged fuel filter, thats more often a gradual los of performance not just a one day good next day bad thing, but you never know and better safe than sorry, i also cant figure out why your rad overflowed, had to had it flushed recently? or anything like that? maybe you should consider its a seized up waterpump, that might cause your accessories to run slower and screw your voltage up, but these are just ideas, good luck in finding the problem bro

Okay... fixed it.
It was flooded. WTF? How does an EFI motor get flooded? Anyway, it's happy again.

Thanks for the ideas. It needs a tuneup, for sure, and I'll be taking care of that soon.
