In Honor of Jack / Icarus-54

Karen and Zack generously donated money to pay for about a year of hosting of SyTy.net in Jack's (Icarus-54) honor. Karen said that he found so much enjoyment in the friends he made both online and in person through the site, and happily spent a lot of time both reading and posting on the site, that he would have wanted this done.

For those too new to have had the opportunity to meet Jack, he was one of those guys that you couldn't get away from, nor did you want to. He was always happy to chat for however much time either of you could afford...about trucks, politics, nature, one of his 50,000 historical stories, or anything you could ever want to talk about. He was a great guy.

Unfortunately, we all lost him to mesothelioma about 10 months ago. I can't believe it's almost been a year now. :(

Jack has a nice collection of vehicles which includes one sy, one ty, one sgt, and i think they had a normal s10 also if i remember correctly, but I only ever cared about his sy and ty if i'm honest

Sy10 (Zack, son) and Karen (wife) brought his ty and sy down to Carlisle last summer and plopped them inside the building, and had a nice little corner dedicated to Jack. The previous year i'll never forget Jack and Zack zipping around racing on the rental scooters

This is how i remember jack:

Always simply shooting the shit while flying under the radar. He was kind of quiet in a large group setting, partially because his lungs just weren't up to the task in his last few years with the damn mesothelioma. But man, Jack loved to talk trucks. He was always rebuilding his Sy motor even though it would only have like 100miles on it with nothing wrong at all, just because he always had to tinker and try new setups. Setups that most people never tried, thought to try, or would ever think to spend the time trying it out.

I know I don't speak for myself when I say Jack is missed. I'm glad to say I met and befriended Jack and his family. And I hope that Zack and Karen continue to be a part of the syty family and continue to come to events. Thankfully they like the trucks themselves, and I'm positive that as a group we'll continue to bring back great memories and make new ones as a family for years to come. We as a group even finished up a couple mods Jack was in the middle of and gave the Ty a quick cleaning and an impromptu picnic/gathering to honor jack and surprise Karen:

What a thoughtful and generous gesture. I met Jack only briefly but can echo what Mike said above. May he RIP.

Great looking trucks and a great family; an excellent legacy.

X2.. I wish I had gotten the opportunity to meet him.. I talked to him a several times over PM and he was always willing to help and go the extra mile. I remember when he came out to the community regarding his sickness and how strong of a person he was.

He will always be missed in syty land. RIP

Jack was one of a kind. Left a lasting impression, and I"m fortunate to have had many interactions with him over the last few years. The whole family are some of the most genuine people you will ever meet. I"m glad that Zack and Karen are still part of the SyTy family and that they were able to be a part of Carlilsle last year.

Great post Mike. I love that pic of the two of us chatting at wrench fest. RIP Jack.

from Zack & Karen:

I showed my mom the thread this weekend. Thanks so much for that, Mike. The amount of support from you and all of the SyTy community speaks volumes to us, and I know my dad would be astounded with how much outpouring admiration and support he has gotten since he first announced that he had mesothelioma. I've been busy as hell lately with work and around the house, and I haven't been on the board since October, up until last week. I talked to Dave P this past week about how he made out with selling the Desert Sy, and I told him that I'm hoping to make it for NATS this year. My mom won't be coming because of the long drive, but we're both planning on Carlisle this year. My dad's meso trial is coming up next month, and we're going through hell with that, but I'm hoping that gets done quickly so things will settle down again, and I can get a schedule laid out. We really appreciate everything that you, Jim, and all the guys on the board have done for us. My mom has made some friends from meets over the past few years, so I doubt either one of us will ever leave. Thanks again, bud!

Just thought i'd share the nice note Zack sent me (i asked him if i could share) with everyone since it's really a thanks to everyone. I'm far from the only one who has tried to lend a helping hand so it's only fair that EVERYONE gets to smile and be acknowledged.

I love how easy it is to assemble a group of us syty peeps when it matters most. It speaks volumes of the type of people we really are offline...and how it's very apparent that everyone treat syty peers as family and don't think twice before trying to help out.

I look forward to seeing Zack and Karen at the next event(s)...and the rest of you people too.

Re: In Honor of Jack / Icarus-54

Thanks, Mike. And a big thanks to everyone for all you've done, and all of your support. Sorry for the delayed post, I'm just getting over a bout with bronchitis, on top of everything else that's been going on in the past few weeks.

My dad thought pretty highly of the SyTy community in general, and had a great passion for his trucks, and the knowledge he gained from them and applied to them. But probably the most important and valued benefit he picked up from these trucks was the friends he made through SyTy.net, and the great times he had at the meets. I promised him before he died that I'd still be a part of the community and try to continue where he left off. My only hope is that I can make him proud.

I'm planning on attending NATS this year, and most likely Carlisle, for at least a couple days. My mom decided she isn't coming to Bowling Green for the NATS due to the long drive, and keeping an eye on things up here, but we will both be at Carlisle. We both plan on being part of this group for years to come, and we'll chip in when we can. Thanks again to all of you guys for the support you've given us, and making SyTy.net a community that my dad considered a second family.
