Leaving the Transmission in...

When leaving the transmission in the truck when pulling the motor, should I support the tranny? My first instinct is yes because the tranny mount is at the back of the transmission. Where do you recommend supporting it?

if anything, I stick a block of wood on the transfercase end between the transfercase and the floorboards/trans tunnel, since the front wants to go down, the rear naturally wants to go up, the block stops that.

Ill let ya know, Eric and I should be pulling his engine on Monday :D

Try putting a couple of nylon ratchet straps across under the transmission to support the weight. You can tighten them up and make a make-shift cradle for the front of your trans. Been there done that. It works good if you loop the straps over the torsion bars and to the frame (...in Dave's case he probably doesn't have torsion bars with coil overs). Try it anyway hooking around the frame rails.

I would recommend a large block of wood supported under the transmission pan to spread the weight over a large area to reduce the stress on things.

I sometimes I use a coathanger to the trans and to the wiper motor to hold it in place.

I usually let it dangle.. or throw a block of wood in the back like others have suggested..

It might be dangling for a month, so it might be best to support it.

I used a crow-bar that was the right length to stretch across the frame rails and under the bell-housing.

Block of wood and a bottle jack.

Exactly or just use coat hanger on the wiper arm both work equaly well imo. The good thing about using the wiper arm is your not tying up a jack that you might need later on
